You took off your mask and could instantly smell the smoke coming from the house.
You rolled your eyes and put your mask back on, took in all the smoke from the house, and released it slowly into the air so it wouldn't affect the ozone layer.
You did this every time they smoked. It was the only good thing you could do right now since you weren't a certified hero yet and you didn't have much to do since your parents always wanted you out of the house.
Looking down at your feet, you looked at your boots.
You smiled, remembering a dear memory that always stayed in your heart.

F L A S H B A C K...
You were six at the time...
They threatened you again. Throwing bottle by bottle at you, glass shattering as it hit the ground. They missed every time they threw but the shards still hurt you since you had no slippers or footwear whatsoever.
You just stood there, waiting for them to pass out from the alcohol and stop. They eventually did and you tried to not step on the shards as much as possible.
It hurt a lot...
You winced every time you took a step. Your tiny feet bled from sharp small shards cutting your skin. Finally reached the porch of the house that thankfully didn't have shards of glass scattered around.
You sat down carefully and looked at your feet and legs. They were bleeding a lot. There were countless shards of glass that pierced through your skin. Your blood was already staining the wood of your porch so you had to do something fast.
With your little fingers, you tried to take out the shards. You screamed in agony as it slowly came out of your flesh.
There were like, thirty more shards on each foot. Staring at your foot with pain in your eyes, you tried to take out another.
You screamed louder since the pain doubled. You finally got to pull it out and you threw the shard into the garden right beside the porch.
Stopping for a moment, you breathed unsteadily. You felt like fainting right then and there. But then someone came rushing to you.
"Are you okay?!" a voice exclaimed. You couldn't see the person's face, but you knew that he was a guy.
Your vision blurred a bit as you heard him shift in different places. He was mumbling different words that you couldn't understand. "H-hurts..." you managed to mumble out and move your feet a bit.
"Hey, focus on me okay? Stay awake!" he exclaimed, lifting up your small body. You rested your head on his chest, trying to gain consciousness. He kept on running and running. You didn't know where you were or who was carrying you, but for the first time in your life...
You felt safe...
You tried to calm yourself down by releasing smoke through your hands but that made him more frantic.
"A-Are you fading away? W-What's happening to you?!" he said, voice cracking a bit as he ran faster.
You could feel your limbs weaken and your eyes beginning to close. You felt cold. The breeze that hit the both of you as he ran made you shiver.
Finally, he came to a stop.
He laid you down on this soft surface and called for help. You could see a tall figure. It looked like a girl. "Put her to sleep so we can take out the shards! But constantly make sure she's breathing!" the man's voice shouted.
