"I'm sure its nothing." I stroked Levi's hair making him pout. He hopped off my lap and walked into the kitchen where I followed and began making some coffee. I got used to the bitterness of it now.
"Hello." I heard Petra's voice say. She walked into the kitchen and after giving her a hug I sat down the children in front of the TV and put on their favourite show, then walked back to our room to check on Armin.
I walked in and he wasn't in the bed. I looked around and saw him emerge from the bathroom wearing a collared long sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans. "Why are you looking so handsome?" I asked and he blushed.
"Oh shut up its nothing special." He said, slipping past me to grab his crutches.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"Yeah why wouldn't I be?" He replied, placing his arms through the supports on the crutches.
"Well, you don't usually use them this early. Are you in pain or anything?" I asked. Before he could say anything I quickly butted in. "And don't lie please."
He hesitated slightly. "I'm just feeling a little weak." He smiled and hobbled past me, down the hall.
"Why? Where? Does it hurt-"
"Don't worry, I'm fine!" Armin sighed.
"Minny!" Both children yelled and lunged at their father.
The conversation was over.
---
We all got in the car and I drove off. While driving I did glance at Armin a few times, thinking about what Levi had said this morning. It was true, Armin was acting a little weirdly. Like he was hiding something. He was a bit more fiesty and fragile. It made me worry and wonder but it also made me frustrated because he wasn't telling me.
Once we were at the police station, I grabbed Petra and Levis hand while Armin gripped his crutches and we walked inside.
We got the officer from yesterday to see us and sat down in an empty room to discuss it. There was also a second cop with him.
"How are you today?" The first officer looked at us, smiling slightly.
We all nodded.
"Alright, so I believe the issue we are discussing is about your dog Luka?" He asked.
"Yes." Armin replied firmly. I held his hand and squeezed it softly as a warning not to go too far.
"Can you explain what happened?" The second policeman asked, eyeing Armin closely.
"Our children were almost attacked by some guy but our dog Luka saved them, and now you want to put her down for no fucking-" Armin began yelling.
"Armin!!" I snapped, looking at him angrily. The kids covered their ears. "I thought I told you to be calm!!"
"How the hell can I be calm!?" He yelled, standing up, but then he sat back down and clutched his head as if he were in pain.
"Armin...?" I said softly.
"I-I'm fine." He sighed, I almost slapped him. I was so sick of him always saying he was fine when he was clearly not.
"Sir there's no need to be fiesty. I asked a simple question, we are trying to help so if I were you I would behave." The second officer glared at Armin, who death stared right back.
"I answered your question." He mumbled.
"Don't get worked up but do you realise why we are considering putting your dog down?" The first cop looked at Armin with a blank look.
