I write poems so that you might like me.
I do not understand your words,
They are mirrors and masks,
And I am simple minded.
I shall aspire where I fear you inspire,
I shall crave and lick and obsess,
In early hours of cold mornings,
Correct, correcting, incorrect,
Until faith has all but left me,
And all I have is fear, dry fingers.
I write poems so that I might like me.
