The word or the name Girls' Generation was derived from Lee Seung Chul's song "Girls' Generation" on 1989.

The name Girls' Generation means that the generation of the girls has come.

Girls' Generation (소녀시대) are also referred as SNSD or SoShi(소시) - both abbreviated forms of the group's korean name.

The group (SNSD) is referred to as Shojo Jidai (SJJD in Japan)

After SM Entrainment had successfully released and debut the kpop group Super Junior, which is a thirteen-boy group, SMEnt wanted to released a group which consist of all girls, so they had cast systems and auditions to find those girls to be part of a new kpop girl group.

SMEnt decided SNSD (Girls' Generation) should be named as "Super Girls", as the girl version of Super Junior but after many discussions, they officially announced and decided to name the girls GIRLS' GENERATION.

If you have any questions or anything about snsd, feel free to comment and i will try to answer it all.
