They started as enlisted soldiers, then became friends, and eventually become sisters and family.

I loved how the story portrays friendship. The scene where Tally and Abigail saved Raelle of desperation to find Scylla, was perfect. That is how friends should be, to look after the safety of each other.

Abigail, at first, was threatened by the attitude Raelle was showing, unmotivated.  While she wanted to excell and pass it to war college, Raelle shows the opposite 

Tally, holds them together. She was willing to keep the secret in order not to hurt Raelle. Even if she was hurting, too. I mean, I am not saying that you have to keep secrets from your friends but at that moment, it wasn’t the right time to say anything. Everybody was hurting and distressed. Everyone needs a Tally in life. When Raelle lost Scylla, Tally and Abigail were there as sisters, as family, to protect not just the unit but also the family.
