AFTER STEVE HAD left and she'd been picked up, Kate, Jonathan, and Nancy were buying just about anything they could think of that might've been able to kill that damn monster.

Kate hadn't asked about what Jonathan had been doing in Nancy's room the night before. Even if she wanted to know more than anything, she couldn't bring herself to ask. She didn't want to make things awkward if anything had happened between them that night, especially when they both knew how close she was to Steve. They would probably lie about it anyway, but that really wasn't any of her business.

She tried to put it all behind her and tried to look at the situation positively. If Nancy would've looked into her bedroom last night, surely she would've thought what she and Steve were doing looked bad, but it hadn't been like that in the slightest. Maybe it was like that.

Kate hadn't had much more time to think about it before Jonathan and Nancy brought their theories to the table. They explained to her how the monster had similar traits of lions, bears, sharks. Nancy thought that they could maybe lure the monster with blood, seeing as all of its victims, as far as they knew, had been bleeding before the attack.

At first, Jonathan and Nancy hadn't had any idea where to go to get weapons that they might need. Kate, however, had quickly come up with the hunting supply store downtown. She knew that no matter what they bought, even if someone raised an eye at them for their purchases, no one would truly question it.
