WHENEVER STEVE AND Kate had gotten to school, they'd immediately gone their separate ways, moving to participate in activities of their own that morning.
While Steve had gone to find Nancy's locker to put a note inside of it (all the note had said was to meet him in the bathroom), Kate had met up with two of her other closest friends before first period.
The two girls she had met, Jessica Parrish and Kim Tran, had both been her closest girl friends since she had moved to Hawkins. She'd met them both on the first day of seventh grade, which had been her first time at school since she'd moved. Both Jessica and Kim had seemingly adopted her, making sure she had been loved and appreciated at a new school in such a small town. Ever since then, the three girls had been very good friends, if not, the best of friends. When Kate had felt the need to get away from Steve, or if he had been busy with something else, someone else, the two girls were always easy to find.
"Morning," Kim said, greeting her with a warm smile. "Have you had your daily dose of caffeine yet?"
Kate stifled a laugh. "Yeah, two cups. I should be okay until work."
Jessica, on the other hand, had deep bags under her eyes, her face seeming to show some discontent. "One of these days we should just start sneaking into the teachers' lounge and just steal a pot of their coffee. It probably sucks, but at least it would be free."
