If I behave unstable
it's not because I want to
no!! It's your fault
your subliminal norms
and narratives that
men do not cry

You've raised us up in
society where they say men
shouldn't cry, where men
who cry are viewed as
weaklings and less musculine
we've been lied to

taught to suppress our pain
and hurt and even forget
that crying in it's own
nature is therapeutic, it's
dreadful that our society
is turning men into
bipedal lifeforms that cannot
feel and show pain
we're being mis-schooled

now what if I fall into depression
because am "being a man"
they say it comes in different
shades, but imagine piling
up so much pain until
I can't anymore and decide
to hang myself in my one room,
commit suicide
will you take care of my loved ones?
comfort my wife
keep that promise and raise
my kids the way I wanted to?

You've forced us to find peace
in the wrong places, acts and
bad habits
we've vented to alcohol and
became chronic alcoholics,
abused the use of narcotics
and became residents of local rehab
centres and nerby hospitals
laced all that with womanising
and got labelled as deranged
nymphomaniacs
just because pain is the
one thing we've never
been taught
to understand, you hollowed us out
from our insides and
left us as walking broken shells
of the men we can only ever
wish to be
lit us up with cans of kerosene
and saw us burn to nothing but rubble
ashes to ashes
dust to dust

forgot
that we are human first, then men
hurts, that we do not know
how to deal with pain and hurt
because we've never been taught to
it's something that we just cannot
comprehend
change that for the coming generations
stand up for the boy child
teach him it is okay to trip, fall and
let his tears out,
it is what makes us human after all
teach him it is okay
to cry, women do it all the
time with so much freedom, in
times of pain and sorrow
they cry, so stop it with the
emotional blackmail and lies
it is not a sign of weakness
but a display of emotion that
should never be heavily muted

stop failing to understand that
there is young boy in every man
a tear in every gland
don't judge us until you've
walked a mile in our shoes, and
understood our pain and hurt
our lives matter too

So dear brother
don't vent out your sorrows
on drugs and alcohol, there is always
a better way
and if you've ever been told to "man up"
and how "men don't cry" as it is a sign of
weakness,
you've been lied to,
let's all gather around, cry and let it out
it's okay
It... is... okay
