In the world of music, the term Avant-Pop indicates music that is new, different, and experimental while retaining an immediate accessibility for the listener. We want to borrow this term and apply this same concept to fiction!
Here, Avant-Pop is fiction that is new and distinct from the rest, written by people who are passionate about their craft and aim to tell stories with purposes that go beyond the simple escapism.
Avant-Pop is targeted especially at:
- those of you who are unable to pin your work on a precise genre;
- those who walk the fine line between "commercial fiction" and "literary fiction", writing a character-centered story with a compelling plot, or a plot-centered story with compelling characters;
- those who like to make their readers think, activate their brains, and fill their heads with questions about what they read;
- those who like to pack their works with philosophical and/or psychological elements by employing symbolism and/or depicting the crude, unadulterated reality, presenting characters that feel real, either regardless of the world around them, or being integral parts of that world;
- those who like to experiment with the craft, who think outside the box, who manufacture a whole new way of thinking and acting, who answer a question with something seemingly unrelated;
- those who are able to write what's known as "serious fiction" and convey convincing emotions and beliefs, and still manage to deliver an exciting, compelling story.
Your work may be exactly what we're looking for! We don't have any genres, we don't have any tropes or fixed structures, we don't fear uncharted waters.
