System 505?" Alice nervously asked in her mind, and upon feeling a chilly and unusual presence, continued slowly. "Is there a time limit to do my task?"

"As this is merely the examination test, no, but be warned that every single action you make will be judged by the higher-ups." The words were concise and straight to the point, rather indifferent too, but Alice somewhat liked the voice's way of speaking. It made her feel as though she could trust its words as it didn't beat around the bush and wasn't confusing at all.

"The higher-ups?" She asked curiously and was met with silence so she moved on to the next question, not really surprised by the secrecy. "What can't I do in this world, System?"

Meanwhile, at the auditorium's stage, the principal of the school made his speech with the teachers seated behind him.

"Severely harming the original's body or dying. Other than that, the more you satisfy the client's requests, the higher your score will be and if you pass with the bare minimum, then the soul points rewarded to you will be lower than the one written in the contract. "

"Oh...thank you."

The students finally stood up and gathered with their respective classes to go to the classrooms, chatting and joking all the while.

Alice didn't really feel like socializing right now, despite this time of the school year being the best for making friends.

Well, that and the fact that she didn't know what to say other than an introduction.

Fortunately, more outgoing students took the initiative to break the ice so soon everyone was chatting and exchanging numbers.

"We should make a group chat," Alice proposed, grinning, more at ease now at the loud and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Plus, she already went through her first year of high school before, so nothing should really put Alice out of her comfort zone right now.

The WeChat they used here in China wasn't that much different from the one she used before, so before long everyone was in.

"Is anyone missing, guys?"She asked, raising her voice a bit, boldly calling the group 'IMPERIAL CLASS OF 1B'.

A chorus of 'no' replied back and Alice made an ok gesture as she put her phone securely in her backpack, making sure to turn it off and.

It had originally been in her skirt's pocket, but the teachers would most likely tell them to put it somewhere that wouldn't distract them, sooo...

Anyway, soon after, their homeroom teacher, a proper looking woman in her early forties greeted them with a smile as she introduced what their curriculum would be like this year.

Alice half listened to her with an attentive face, leaning back in her chair  with crossed legs.

What she focused on, instead, was the question of what clubs she'd join.

A club! Oh god, the only experience of clubs she had was from animes and novels, lmao, so Alice was very excited about it.

Unfortunately, there aren't any school clubs or such things in Italy, apart from those extracurricular courses you'd have to pay for, obviously.

And growing up, as the elder sibling of two kids and with a single mom, Alice had been laden with responsibilities since young.

Alice looked down as she held her hands together before rolling her eyes at herself.

No use recounting those stuff right now. She really didn't want to think of sad things, damn it. And she'd better be thinking optimistically if she wanted to go back, anyway.

Alice sighed, clenching her hands under the table, feeling now irritated.

"Fuck." She muttered under her breath, in english, quiet enough that the teacher's rambling about history drowned it.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!

Nothing happy came to mind so Alice decided to tune the teach' back in.

Everyone was silent and well behaved throughout the lecture, though Alice knew that'd change soon enough once they scouted in which periods and teachers it'd be safe to act as hooligans.

"As you all are aware of, everything we know about the past are thanks to the historical sources that had been documented by the people that had lived through those times... though how true it is, we'll never really know for sure, right?" Teacher Zhang asked, smiling encouragingly at us.

Silence

Alice felt embarassed for the teacher as silence reigned the class, almost wanting to laugh awkwardly before saying belatedly, "Yes, history is written by victors."

It was probably a quote from one of the many fanfiction she had read in her life, probably remembering it because it was a cool quote and Alice was a sucker for deep and meaningful sayings.

It should originate from some president or something of America, or maybe it was England? It didn't really matter, anywho.

"En, en, very good miss...?" Teacher Zhang smiled at her enthusiastically, crow's-feet at the corner of her eyes.

"Fan He, ma'am," Alice made sure to beam back warmly, having no qualms at being a teacher's pet.

Hmph, others didn't understand the power of being a teacher's favorite!

For one, if you didn't turn your homework in time or was late, they would be lenient to you and not make any fuss. Plus, they'll naturally be swayed to choosing a positive vote rather than a bad one if unsure on what to grade your homework.
And if you broke a rule, they'd close an eye if it isn't that grave. Oh! They'd speak well about you to other teachers too, of course.

Obviously, Alice never did anything extreme to gather favor, she wasn't that much an ass licker and she chose the teachers wisely. Lol.

Her fellow youngsters didn't understand what a simple warm smile and a brief and courteous question regarding their day could do.

"Very good, Student He." Alice merely smiled in embarrassment and flustered cheeks as she nodded timidly.

An important rule to be a Good Student was to neither gather the classmates and teachers dislike.

Okok, enough exaggerating now.
