the next day, jungkook met chaeyoung in a park near his apartment. he was surprised that she really came, because it looked like she hadn't slept for two days. he knew it was because of him, but he couldn't do anything about it.

"are you ok?" chaeyoung looked at him with surprise evident in her eyes.

"can you really ask me that?" she said. jungkook pressed his lips and sighed. "no, sorry. but I really have to do something as soon as possible about this."

chaeyoung scoffed and rolled her eyes. she has never met anyone with so little of an empathy before. was he really the person she thought he was, or was he just faking it before to get with her?

"I really don't want to hurt you anymore." he added.

"too late for that." she muttered, but loud enough for jungkook to hear it.

they silently walked into his apartment after that, barely speaking any words and they tried. they tried everything that they could think of. burning, cutting, slicing. but nothing seemed to work. the string was as strong as ever, glistening as good as new.

"you really think you can cut the bond of fate with kitchen scissors?" chaeyoung asked, slumping on his couch tiredly.

"i-it was worth a try." he answered, putting down the scissors dejected. "I don't know how to do this."

"nobody does. and clearly, you haven't studied enough about it." she said.

"what do you mean?" he asked.

"nothing. just forget about it. I'm going home, call me if you find anything else." she said as she got up from the couch to leave.

"wait–" he called and she paused to look at him curiously.

"can't you… stay for a bit longer?" he asked, not sure why himself.

"what for?"

"I just… want to know about this more so I can find a solution. you seem to know about it a lot."

chaeyoung raised her eyebrow and scoffed.

"you're really unbelievable jungkook. I don't know how I'm so attached to you while you're treating me like this." she said. jungkook shamefully looked down at his lap. she said she was still attached to him. she really did.

meanwhile, chaeyoung had walked back to his couch.

"what do you want to know?"
