Tales of a Horror World Moderator

Inugami Rescue

"Is this really the right place?" Jeri asked with a raised brow as he walked up to the hospital entrance. "Why would a dog spirit be in a human hospital?"

Jeremiah is a dimensional moderator working in the Horror World sector. His job is to capture, contain, or ensure obedience from creatures and other beings created by humans for entertainment. He's been kept really busy these days, not even having time to take a holiday in a different sector. Things didn't used to be so bad when stories and ideas were only passed around by word of mouth or books. Creatures like the boogeyman and witches were the main reoccurring characters in the Horror World. But thanks to the invention of television and the internet, all sorts of creatures were being created and left wreaking havoc every single day. 

Now you may be a little confused as to why there are such worlds and why moderators exist, but it's pretty simple. Someone imagines and then creates characters or entities. They then share this idea with others. If enough people think about or visualise the characters, then those entities come into being in an alternate dimension. The more people believe or think about the characters, the more powerful the new beings are. Most even develop their own consciousness apart from the one in their original script. The moderators exist to ensure newly created beings don't cause problems and understand their story has already ended. The key thing is to ensure they don't try to escape into a different sector and set the worlds off-balance. 

Following the sound of drums and squeaky instruments, Jeri soon found the room he was looking for. He sighed heavily before entering after seeing the talisman on the door. As he expected there was a woman in traditional robes dancing and chanting like a crazy person as people played instruments around her. He glanced over to the man tied to his hospital bed who was screaming and trying to break free.

"Hey lady! Stop that already! You're hurting him!" he scolded the shaman over the music. She ignored him. "Oi! Can you not hear me or are you ignoring me? Do you want me to report you for spirit abuse?"

Irritated, Jeri snapped his fingers and everyone in the room froze except the guy on the bed. It was easy to gain control over minor or side characters with his granted power of a moderator. He walked over to the bed and looked down at the man. Though what he could see was the spirit residing within. 

"Hey pup, you don't have to play the evil spirit role anymore. The TV show ended already so there's no need to put yourself through this ridiculous possession business," he explained clearly. "If you come with me nicely I'll treat you to a steak or chicken and throw a ball around in the park." He took a rubber ball out of his coat pocket and tossed it into the air.

This Inugami was supposed to be an evil spirit that was hundreds of years old, but to Jeri a dog was just a dog. Why would a dog bother possessing and cursing people? And sure enough, after the second ball toss the black cloud of energy that made up the spirit came out of the man and formed a big black dog. With its tongue hanging out and its tail still forming in the smoke wagging, the dog spirit jumped up and tried to get the ball. 

"You're such a good boy aren't you," cooed Jeri giving the spirit a pat on the head. "Come on boy! Let's go find you a nice place to live until those annoying humans make a sequel and turn you evil again."

That's right. Characters that have been created can still be controlled by the human world when new scripts or stories are written about them. During this time they lose the sense of self they created and act out the new story made about them. It leaves a lot of popular figures quite bitter at the imagination (or lack of), that humans have.
