Chapter 7: Planning and Plotting
So yeah, the two had basically come up with some ideas on how to fight. Not that it was going to be hard or anything, but it was better than nothing. The plan definitely involved getting different weapons in comparison to just using the Splattershot Jr, but it also involved using the terrain's gimmicks to their advantage as well. They'd written some ideas down on assist items as well, because those combined with weapons would make for better combos than simple attacks.
There was also the discussion of how to approach Celine, possibly testing the method on other, was difficult players before trying it on her. There was always the long-range option, but if that missed, she'd know they were there. All the good status afflicting items didn't appear until later in the game, or would have to be tediously searched for in the map. The duo didn't have the time for that, and if anything, they'd have to wait until the other players killed themselves off before making a move. If Celine really WAS the top 10, she'd most likely be the last one standing. If not...Rona could possibly get an easy 1st place after beating a weaker player.
"How about a signal? When you see something in the distance, you'll know I'm there!" Rex suggested. "But you can't make it too obvious or you're gonna give me away."
"That could work...are you gonna use some kind of battle cry?" Rona asked.
"Maybe. Depends on if the signal is loud or not. Stealth is probably a good idea."
"Yeah. We also might need healing, so do you think you could support me from a distance?"
"Well...yes, but also no? I have an idea that involves me going to a mountain-y area that's further away from where you and Celine will fight, so...probably not?"
"Wait, what are you even going to do?" Rona asked.
Rex pointed to a location on a map of the stage.
"See that mountain?" he asked.
"Yeah?"
"There's a flag on the top that changes color depending on who touches it. When I get up to that mountain, I'll touch it, and it'll turn green. I can then spy on your location with a machine at the top, and launch an explosive missile out of it directly towards your location when you have Celine down," Rex explained. "If you can add in your attack at the same time, you might splat her first with my attack counting as an assist, so you'd get the credit!"
"Aww yeah, that sounds like a great plan!" Rona exclaimed. "But uh...what if I get the assist instead of you?"
"Well, I'd still credit you for working with me! And it would still count as a kill since we both worked together on it!" Rex replied happily.
Rona thought for a bit. He wanted to be the king of this place and its game, but he'd need as many victories as possible. While relying on others kind of sounded like a weak, bad idea at first, there was always the possibility that he could learn tricks from the others to further his own strength. Since he was just starting out, he'd need that sort of help...
"Yeah.....yeah, that could work. Alright then, sounds like a plan!" Rona said.
"Okay, now to tackle Celine herself, since getting her cornered won't be easy..."
The two talked some more about good attack combos, as well as pros and cons to each. Celine wasn't as good with slow weapons, so they'd need quick weapons regardless to catch up with her. There was also the option of powerful 1 hit KO weapons, like splat bombs, stamp hammers, and others. The only issue was landing those right, which the two doubt they could do with someone so high up. Regardless though, they figured they'd come up with something eventually.
Rona checked the time on his phone to see if they could keep going for a while longer. It was getting late, and he'd have to challenge Celine tomorrow. There wasn't much more time to talk if he wanted to get food, so he might as well cut off the plan here. He'd gotten a good base idea of what to do anyway, so it was all good. Rona sighed as he set his phone down.
"So, what time did you plan on going?" he asked.
"Oh! Do you have something to do?" Rex asked.
"Yeah, I was gonna get dinner by myself, not sure about you."
"Oh yeah! I should get something to eat, too...should we go together?"
"Ehh...probably not, in case people see us together and think we're plotting something," Rona replied.
"Ah, great idea!" Rex said with a smile. "They'll never see this coming!"
"Hopefully, anyway..." Rona muttered. "Now come on, let's go!"
Rex stood up with Rona and made sure he had all his things before heading out of the room with him. The two walked down the halls and got back to the entrance area of the hotel, then pushing the doors to go outside. The sun was starting to set, though the sky was still blue. As he walked Rex out, Rona made sure there weren't too many people watching them. Thankfully the other citizens around here seemed to be minding their business, and there weren't many of them out and about at the moment.
"We'll meet up tomorrow, right? After all, your hotel isn't too far from my place," Rona asked.
"Yeah!! We can meet halfway, or at the bus stop area!" Rex replied.
"So is that our choice?"
"I guess it is!"
"Alright, then!"
The two high-fived before parting ways. Rona watched Rex for a bit before heading back to his room, where he started preparations for the evening.
This was gonna be great...

...and that was when Rona had gone to get dinner, but all the while he'd been thinking non stop about the plan. If this failed, he wouldn't give up, so might as well give it all he had.
