Chapter 2: Setting Up
Rona used his phone to easily find the Pipefish Posada, and he got there within the span of a few minutes. It didn't look half bad, in fact, it almost looked better than his regular apartment. It was a large building that seemed to be made out of polished serpentine cut into bricks, and it was decorated with a diverse range of fishes made out of colored glazed tile. He walked in through the doors, right up to the counter without further trouble. Luckily for him, there wasn't a line full of other creatures who also had to get to their rooms.
The receptionist was an octoling woman with white ink, as well as brown skin that had sections of whiter skin. Rona remembered a condition like that being called...vitiligo was it? Nonetheless, she was busy typing away at a computer, a focused expression on her face. Her tentacles seemed to be moving like separate limbs though, as they were all holding up papers and sorting pens. Rona tried to get her attention via mere looking around, but that didn't seem to work. He'd announce his presence loudly, but that could probably get him in serious trouble. His parents would be upset if they found out after it happened.
"Um...excuse me?" he asked.
The octoling looked up with an annoyed glare, but upon seeing that Rona had luggage, assumed he was someone new that was staying here and changed her facial expression to a more polite one.
"Apologies. How may I help you?" she asked calmly.
"Is there a reservation here for Rona Cavayer?"
She glanced at her computer and clicked around a little.
"Ah yes, are you him?"
Rona held up an identification card that was in his backpack. His parents told him he'd need it for this. The octoling read it, nodded, and typed some information down into the computer. She then handed Rona two keys on rings, each with a card with the number 325 on them. Rona took them carefully and put them in his hoodie pocket.
"Inkopolis Streets? You plan on playing some Splat Royale?"
"You bet!" Rona replied confidently.
"My son also plays Splatter Royale. Perhaps you two will meet someday..."
"Yeah, that'd be great! Thanks!"
And with that, Rona left for the elevators. Nobody bothered him on the way over, he just hoped that the elevators also weren't crowded. When the doors opened, he saw a single person standing inside it. Okay, so it wasn't completely empty like he wanted, but that was okay. At least it wasn't filled to the brim.
He stepped inside and watched as the doors closed. He looked to the side of him out of curiosity of the other person. A tall octoling with a clown aesthetic stood next to him, typing away on her phone. Rona began to wonder what kinds of wacky people lived here, and what kind of gear they had. He just hoped they were at least cool people.
The elevator stopped and Rona got out on the third floor. The Pipefish Posada of course had many more floors, but he was glad he wasn't too high or too low. He found his room using the direction cards on the walls, and took out his key. He successfully unlocked the door the first time and walked straight in, closing the door behind him. When he got inside, he flicked on the nearest light switch and had a look around.
It was an average room, containing a bed, a desk, a chair by the desk, a bathroom, a closet, and a TV. There was plenty of wall space to put things up, and there was a large window on the side that allowed Rona to look out over the streets. Unfortunately, it didn't give him a view of the tower, but that was okay. He walked in and set his things down, already starting to make himself at home and arrange things. The beds were nice and soft, and nothing seemed too out of place.
He took a selfie with his squidphone and sent it to his family to let them know he'd gotten in okay. He couldn't wait to make more memories and send them. He opened up one of his suitcases and moved the clothes from there to the drawer. He moved his shoes to the closet nearby, and went to organize his things in the bathroom. When he was done with that, he busied himself with spreading out his smaller things like notebooks, chargers, etc.
He didn't bring anything to hang up, but honestly he didn't mind. This was already a great start to his new life. He checked the time on his phone, and found that it was afternoon about. Great, he could do some Splat Royale for a while and then get dinner somewhere...unless the Pipefish Posada did that already. Then that would be convenient.
He put his extra luggage into the closet and hung up a few more things like coats and hoodies. He did one final check of the room, and it seemed alright to him. Nodding confidently, he took his phone and room card, and made his way back outside. It was time for some action! As he closed the doors to the Pipefish Posada, he began looking around for a map or something of the sorts to direct him to the Splat Royale area.
He found one quickly, and started down the concrete sidewalk. The day was still bright, and small fluffy clouds littered the endless blue void of the sky. The sun was still shining bright, and the warmth of its rays hadn't faded away. Rona hoped it could at least stay like this for the rest of the week. Just then, he noticed a group of people gathering around something in a more grassy area off to the side.
'Well, perhaps this is my one chance to become famous!' Rona thought to himself. 'After all, you don't know what'll happen when you do something unless ya do it!'
And so, he ran over.
