Missing Pages

Visiting a place
after so long
feels like a video
skipped to an undefined minute
or a book
with missing pages.
You don't know what occurred
in between
but have to pick the story
from right there.
Old actors have left the world for ever
and the new ones
are trying to fit into their shoes,
but failing miserably.
Roads are in decrepit state,
given up lamenting
her far-away lover.
Now that he has arrived,
she is too hostile
to carry on with the relationship.
Although some roads
are recently constructed,
they seem too strangers
to talk with.
Long evening walk on them
doesn't feel like this place
is any familiar.
Buildings are getting bigger
and beautiful
with every visit,
as if on a race
to reach the sky.
The older ones are still there,
hiding their bruises and wrinkles
somewhere behind the scent
of new paints in the neighborhood.
At the verge of collapsing,
they are looking for a support
which they once provided
the newer ones to stand.
It's a never ending book
where you want the story
to progress
but don't want to miss
every few pages of this progress,
stumbling across characters
which were once your favorite
but are nowhere near
their former self.
Among all,
there are still some characters
and a place
which come to a standstill
when the reader leaves,
no matter where he is
or how other characters are doing.
They come to life
once the reader is back.
Back to them.
Back to the town.
Back to the book.
