"Come here, I got a little game we could play,"I whisper to Mila.
Her little self looks curious at me. She has always been eager to learn at the grand old age of 5.I grab her tiny hands and sit on to the window seat in the library, I put the volume of my music on my phone higher and move my speakers towards the door to block the noise from downstairs. I sit on the window seat and pull Mila onto my lap.
The shouting in the house fades from the music.
"Remember the story we made up? Do you want to finish it?" I ask her.
"Mmm, yes. I start Astoria?"She asks.
"Yes you can Mila," I smile.
"Her name was Elfie, she laughed, she played with me...her pretty golden.. silvery hair was soft, very soft...It's like yours Astoria."She says with a gleaming smile.
"What else is Elfie like?" I ask her.
"Now? She is scary, She doesn't play anymore.."she says sadly and her golden brown hair covers her face.
"She shouts,"She continues.
I realise 'Elfie' is our mum. Elfie is a nick name for fairies she made up in her story, mum naturally has slivery blonde hair, it somehow reminds Mila of a fairy but she always mixed up the differences of a elf and a fairy. In this story Mila is decribing how she used to remember mum, how different she was.
I push her brown hair away and cup my hands between her face.
"Listen Mila, I know The Elfie you're talking about is mother..she's is going to go soon..very far away," I tell her.
Her big, puppy grey eyes look into mine. I can see the confusion in her face.
"She's going? I thought if she gets better, happier...maybe she will play with me?" She asks me.
"I know, she isn't getting happier, She has to go." I tell her.
"You won't leave me right?"she asks with a frown.
Of course I wouldn't leave her. She is the only thing that makes me survive in this house.
"Nope, my little Mila, Never." I tell her.
She relaxes and rests her head against my shoulder.
I look outside the window.
The dark sky has silver specks of stars painted across it, millions of them dance across the sky and the moon glistens like a disco ball. It looks like a intergalactic party.
I know now that whatever happens now is going to impact my life forever.
