26. i should've told you
everything

TWO weeks had passed with Spencer and Aeyla not speaking a single word to the other. She avoided him because he avoided her, and he avoided her because she was avoiding him. It was a continuous circle; their relationship, this fighting—everything they did, it just resulted in them never being able to get anywhere, or move on.

But neither of them were letting go or moving on; they just couldn't. No matter how much Aeyla flirted with the cashier from The Grind, or no matter how much work Spencer buried himself in—thoughts of the other still wandered in their minds.

It was a work day, and the BAU was gathered at the conference room. Aeyla glanced at Spencer, eyes scanning his tired features carefully. He felt her stare, but didn't look up once. She peeled her eyes away, looking up at the screen which showed the crime scene pictures.

"Usually, gang-affiliated crimes source from one psychopathic and doctoral leader." JJ commented.

"Yeah." Aeyla murmured, sighing. This case was getting a little too personal—earlier, she had lashed out on the team, barking at them because she thought she knew how gangs worked the best. But Aeyla only knew what MS-13 was like, and she couldn't help but notice the uncanny resemblance in their seamless murders and the ones they were working on now.

"You don't think it's MS-13, do you?" Alvez asked the woman, not even sugar-coating his words.

Aeyla grimaced at the accusation, the knife being pushed deeper into her chest. "Truthfully? It looks like their work..."

"That could be a lead. We could work off that." Matt said reassuringly.

"But then again, these kills just show any other organized mob." Spencer said.

Aeyla ignored him, moving to the crime scene board. "We just need them to take our bait."

"And what? Wait til they shoot us all up?" Spencer asked her. Aeyla turned around, her face showing an eerily calm state regardless of how much he had been getting on her nerves.

"Yeah." She replied softly, her gaze piercing into him. "Until they shoot us all up."

"Sounds like you're looking forward to it." He said spitefully, making her teeth grit.

"Yeah, because I'm looking forward to seeing the people who've ruined my fucking life. You know what Reid? I am looking forward to that." Aeyla spat out, fuming with rage as she stormed out of the conference room, slamming the door closed behind her. Spencer's eyes widened, raising both of his eyebrows as he diverted his gaze back onto the case file, ignoring her outburst.

"Spencer, we're a team." Matt said wearily at him. "What is up with you two?"

"None of your business." Spencer said bitterly with annoyance, getting up and leaving the room.

JJ let out an exasperated sigh, shaking her head. "I've never seen a more explosive couple in my entire life."

"If we can even call them a couple." Alvez scoffed.

Suddenly, the phone started to ring in the middle of the table, Matt leaning down to pick it up, pressing the speaker button. "FBI, you're speaking to agent Simmons."

"3rd corner of Main Street and Charles Avenue." A deep voice echoed through the room, chills running down everyone spines. "Bring your best men."

Then the call ended, the BAU jumping into action.

"Gather SWAT team—tell them to meet us there. JJ—call Prentiss and Rossi, Alvez—find Spencer and Aeyla. I'll notify Virginia PD." Matt ordered, everyone rushing out of the room.
