Oliver Queen learned much on the island. He gained two more friends, fellow stranded strangers: Slade Wilson and Shado, Yao Fé's daughter. They train together - survive together. The mercenaries were defeated with the three's help. However, these years were not completely without loss. Shado was killed, and Slade succumbed to a poison called Mirakuru, making him strong but clouding his mind. He turns against his friends, resulting in Alina getting injected with Mirakuru, as well.
After Slade Wilson was reluctantly defeated, Oliver and Alina are rescued and brought to Hong Kong. To Alina, however, she wasn't being rescued. She wanted to go home. She also has to learn to control her anger, the Mirakuru making it impossible. She eventually finds Tai Chi and calms her nerves, at least.
Finally, when they ended up back on the island, Oliver set off a fire beacon at a passing Chinese fishing boat. Before leaving, he approached a teary-eyed Alina and hugged her, "Are you sure you don't want to come with me?"
She smiled, "My place is on Lian Yu. I will never forget your friendship, Ollie."
They grasped each others' forearms, and Oliver said, "Survive."
They parted ways and didn't see each other for a long time, but they were both in each others' thoughts.
Oliver returned to Starling City to his family, and Alina stayed on Lian Yu.
