46 Hours left
"I would say you have about 45 hours left, tops." The doctor explained as she flipped through her charts, "20 to get the surgery started, 28 to finish, and that leaves time for recovery."
I don't say anything as I process what he is saying. I don't care about how much time is left total, I care about how long until I get worst. I'm slowing getting to where I can't eat, can't get up, I'm officially on bed rest.
"I'll be going now." The doctor says as he leaves. I let out a deep sigh as I turn towards the window.
Basically I have 20 hours left..
~~Mateos POV~~
I know I shouldn't be sitting out here but I am. I haven't left the waiting room other then to pick Luca up and drop him off at home or bring him here.
"Doctor Philis!" I call out to him as he pulls her door shut. "Have you found a donor?" I ask him.
"No.. not yet." I avoided eye contact with me. "We have had people volunteer but none have been compatible."
I look down at the paper in my hand and I look back to the doctor.
"I am a compatible donor." The doctor looks up and me and makes eye contact with me for the first time since I first met him.
"How do you know?" He asked me with hope in his eyes.
"I went to my own doctor and had him run test and my kidney is a perfect match for Rue." I had him the paperwork and he scans over it.
"You are a perfect match indeed." I can see the smile form on his lips.
"Don't tell Rue who the donor is. She won't accept if you do." I tell him as I look towards her room.
"Of course. I'll go put the information into the computer then I will deliver the news to Miss.Cooper." He tells me as he walks away down the hall.
~~Rue POV~~
The doctor told me about 30 minutes ago to get my family here. He didn't tell me why, just that it was important.
Luca is sitting on my bed playing my phone, Ava is nervous as ever standing by the window. I'm just as nervous. There is no telling what the doctor has to tell me. All I know is hopefully it is good news because I only have less then a day. The door opens and we all look towards it hoping to see the doctor instead we get Mateo. We all sigh and go back to what we were doing.
"I'm glad to see y'all too." Mateo laughs out as he closes the door.
"Sorry, we are just a little nervous." I sigh as I look down at Luca who is glued to his game.
"What about?" He asks with a eyebrow raised as he takes a sit on the couch.
"The doctor told me to get my family here about 45 minutes ago." I tell him as I meet his eyes.
"Oh, what about?"
"Honestly, no clue yet. He didn't tell me why." I answer him honestly.
He looks like he is thinking but I can see it in his eyes that he isn't.
"Do you mind if I stay?" He asks me as he searches my eyes for a answer.
"I don't mind." I answer him. I'm only allowing him to stay because it will be good for Luca to see his mom and dad together through rough times.
Not even a few seconds after I tell him he can stay the doctor walks in. I sit up and look at him, Luca finally puts his game down, and Ava and Mateo turn and look at him.
"It's good to see you have your family here. Is there anyone else coming or can I begin?" He asks me.
"You can begin." I nod towards him.
"Ok, first it's good for you to have your family here. 2nd I have good news." He smiles. He pauses for a few seconds.
"Just tell us already!" Ava blurts out which makes Doctor Philis laugh.
"We have found a compatible donor. We can start surgery prep as soon as you want." He smiles at me as I stare at him making sure he isnt lying.
Luca looks up at Mateo and then at me.
"Daddy, what does that mean?" He asks confused.
"It means your mommy is going to be okay." He smiles at Luca.
Luca smiles back and hugs me around my neck. I hug him back and mouth a thank you towards the doctor.
"I'll go tell the nurses to get ready for surgery prep."
I let out a long held sigh. I was losing hope, and that is what I needed to hear.
