She chuckled and let him help her to her feet before he wrapped his arm around her own as was the usual procedure when they walked. Dazai told Atsushi and the others that they were heading back to get her head looked at, and all of them, except Kyoka, shuddered at the thought of Dr. Yosano's treatment.
As the pair departed from the scene, Dazai asked her, "So, what's this little secret of yours?"
(Y/n) smiled at him before saying, "I don't have to announce the codes to use them."
Dazai gave her a shocked expression before he said, "But, you always announce them, have you always been able to use them without speaking them, or is this a new trick you learned?"
She shook her head before saying, "The more I use them, the easier it is to use them without using words. Some codes I have to call out to use, but I've found out that my emotional or psychological state can trigger a code. When I have a clear goal or plan in mind, my codes can be triggered that way. But... when I was fighting that girl, Lucy, I never once called for Firewall, but it came out when I was in danger."
She gave him a sad smile before she said, "That means that I have made no progress whatsoever in controlling my lethal codes in the last five years. My emotions could still easily kill someone."
Dazai sent her a bored look before he said, "Are you sure about that?"
She nodded her head before he said, "When you were telling me about your Codes, you said Firewall works differently on abilities than humans. If a human attacks you and hits the firewall, they will receive an amplified hit in return to their own bodies. If someone shoots bullets at your firewall, the bullets are held and sent back at a faster force than when they were fired at you. If an ability attacks firewall, as long as the user isn't touching the firewall themselves, the damage is reflected onto the ability. If the user is in contact with the firewall, for example, if Atsushi sent a tiger punch to the firewall, he would take an amplified hit back. This girl attacked with a puppet, correct?"
(Y/n) nodded, surprised at how well he recalled her explanation of her code.
"Well, you may have not meant to trigger firewall, but what other codes could you have used then? There were only the other offensive code, right? You knew any attack the puppet used would be reflected back to it and not the girl, and that is probably why firewall was used without you triggering it."
A smile of relief slowly showed up on her lips as she said, "So, I probably knew it was the only option to not hurt her and to escape?"
"Precisely. You can control your codes better than you think, so don't start doubting yourself now. I will admit though, I'm surprised you don't need to call them out. Do you just call them out because it's a habit now? Say, will you activate a code right now without saying it?"
She sweatdropped at the man who was literally a genius before she said, "Dazai, you're literally holding onto my arm, you know I can't use any abilities while you're touching me..."
"Oh, you're right, I forgot!"
The pair arrived back at the Agency where they were met by Kunikida and the Doctor herself.
"Wow, (Y/n), that's quite the injury you have there... Want to come into my office for a bit?"
The woman had a crazed smile on her face and (Y/n) shivered in response as she weakly said, "No thanks... Can you just check in here... in public... where I can't be jumped..."
The woman scowled before saying, "I understand your hesitance, I'll grab my supplies and check your vitals and reflexes..."
(Y/n) whispered to Dazai, "She's really upset because she can't cut me up, isn't she?!"
