After Ash received the Marsh Badge from Sabrina they decided to stay in Saffron City for a while cause of a Pokémon Contest

"Well great to see you again May" a familiar voice called out turning around the gang saw the young coordinator Brendon Birch

"Oh hi Brendan" May greeted as she smiled "Everyone this is Brendan a friend I made during my last contest, Brendan these people are my family Ashlyn, Alain, Bonnie, Paul, Lillie, Gladion and Max"

"Nice to meet you" Brendan said happily before another familiar voice was heard

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T REGISTER!" a shrill high pitch voice screeched making everyone turn to the unpleasantly familiar brunette as a bluenette next to her tried to calm her down

"I'm sorry Ms but the last participant has already registered" the receptionist said apologetically

"Let's go somewhere calmer shall we?" Alain said as he led Ash and Bonnie to the Garden behind the Pokémon center

"I can't believe we see them here of all places" Bonnie said angrily

"Huh?" Brendan asked May who just shook her head

"Good luck during the contest Brendan" Ash said

"Oh um thanks" he said before he noticed that all of them have key stones "Wow are those key stones?!"

"Yes they are do you have one too?" Alain asked

"Sure do" Brendan said showing them his key stone bracelet

"Mind battling against me?" Alain asked with excitement in his eyes

"No problem" Brendan said smirking

"This is going to be so cool" Max said happily

Once the trainers made their way to the battle field behind the pokemon center Alain with Gallade by his side while Brendan had his Swampert

"Gardevior, Gallade is going to battle I need you here to cheer him on" Ash said smiling at the embrace pokemon

"Of course Ashlyn" Gardevior said as she anxiously watched her mate battle

"Don't hold back Brendan" Alain said smirking

"Same goes to you" Brendan said before they both mega evoluved their pokemon

"Swampert let's start this off with water pulse" Brendan commanded before Swampert formed a blue ball before throwing it towards Gallade

"Gallade use Sword Dance then Psycho Cut!" Alain commanded before a red aura surrounded Gallade before he unleashed a Psycho Cut attack which cut through the Water pulse

"Swampert Earthquake!" Brendan commands before Swampert brought both his arms down moving the earth below both pokemon

"Gallade Jump and then use Aura Sphere!" Alain said before Gallade launched himself into the air using Swampert's back as a spring board as he did a summersault in the air he launched an Aura sphere towards Swampert

"Swampert shake it off then use Hyperbeam!" Brendan commanded before Swampert launched a Hyperbeam towards Gallade which hit him head on resulting in a huge smoke cloud

"No way did Alain lose?" Bonnie asked dumbfounded as May and Mac just gaped

"Not really" Ash said smirking

"Now Gallade use Solar Beam!" Alain said before a super effective attack hit Swampert reverting him back into his former form before fainting

"That was awesome!" Max said as Gardevior went to her mate

"That was a great battle Brendan I can really see how your bond with Swampert" Alain praised as Ash stood by his side

"I hope I'll get my turn to battle you soon Brendan" Ash said smiling

"But first you'll have to win against me during this contest" May said confidently

"Oh I know I'll win" Brendan said in a friendly yet competitive way

"Well then good luck to both of you" Lillie said smiling

"Oh trust me she'll/he'll need it" May and Brendan said at the same time then playfully glared at each other

"Well May has a new rival now" Paul said as he and Gladion smirked

"Seems like this is going to be an interesting contest" Alain said smirking at Ash who was smiling mischievously

"I don't care who among these two win just as long as that traitor loses" Ash said smirking

"Oh trust me she will lose" May said smirking
