The night drained her completely.

This all was all too much for her to handle. Especially with the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

She decided to be the vulnerable and just give in, just like she has done, time and time again. Even though Jeremiah was the sweetest and most understanding man she has ever met, she knew when they argued, he never gave an inch. It was like he had an alter ego. Whether the argument was big or small, Jeremiah would always build up a strong front that couldn't be rattled by anyone; not even her. He never changed that side of him, for her. He was so stuck in his ways sometimes. This was the one side, the only side of Jeremiah that Eva hated. Therefore, she knew going back and forth would only stop, if and only if, she decided she wanted it too, not him. He could continue until the sun rose.

Tonight, out of all nights, she grew tired of the shouting and screaming. She just wanted to be happy again. She needed them to be happy again. So she said what she believed would make everything better. She said what her mouth didn't want to mutter, out of anger, but what her heart was so desperately screaming inside.

Through the tears and the hollering,

Eva said,

"Jeremiah, I love you!"

What came next, nothing could prepare her, or him, for.

He replied, "I'm in love somebody else."

After the words left his mouth, his heart raced faster than it ever has before. His stomach felt that "G-force" feeling people get when they go down the first big drop of a roller coaster. He knew he could never take back what he said as long as he had lived.

In a fraction of a millisecond he thought to himself, "Why did I just say that? What have I done? The ironic thing is that he didn't blame himself for what just came out his mouth, he blamed his heart. He knew it wanted to tell the truth, eventually, but not right now, not like this!

When those words hit the eardrums of Eva, she lost all feeling in her body. Her legs gave out as she fell to the floor of their New York apartment. There was nothing he could say or do that would make up for what he had just told her.

Jeremiah knew he use to be in love with Eva, but now he "had" love for her. Deep down he knew he was falling out of love with her for some time now. On the contrary, to her, this was breaking news. She knew something was different with their love for the past few months now, but nothing as devastating as this. She thought, maybe they were just going through something that they would get through eventually. Being labelled by her friends as a hopeless romantic, she always believed love would heal all wounds no matter how deep the pain or how much blood would be shed. Who knew she would be the one shedding an uncontrollable amount that not even she believed love could fix.

Being with somebody for as long as they were, they grew, no, they evolved together, to the point in which they knew each other inside and out. From childhood dreams to their deepest fears/secrets. And because of this, when something isn't sitting right between the two, it's was never actions that spoke, it was always their soul that did the talking.

Eva's soul had been speaking to her loud and clear for a while now, but she chose to ignore it.

She now deeply regret it.

From the late nights, to the overtime work, Eva knew that Jeremiah was hiding something from her, but she could never put her finger on it. I mean, he did just get a promotion at work; at least that's what he used as his excuse to miss time with her. He would always say, "new promotion means new hours. I barely have time for myself." They normally spend any free time he had together, but lately she started to think maybe somebody else was occupying that time.

What she thought, but never wanted to say a loud, was now her reality. The man she gave her all too, was in love with another woman?

Although Eva had no idea who it could be, that was the least of her struggles at the time of hearing this life-altering news. Her world was now turned upside down within a matter of seconds. Eva trusted Jeremiah with everything she had in her. She never checked his phone, that would sit on his bedside table, when it would light up with vibration after work, even after they said their goodnights. Never once asked who he was going to dine with during his "business dinners", even when they were after hours. She didn't even say a word when he started to cancel their mid-day rendezvous, they more than often enjoyed, at the diner, on his lunch breaks.

Maybe a word would have changed her present reality.

When he started to cancel their time at the diner, she should have known something like this wasn't right..
