When Johnny comes marching home. Exercise in Genre

Do you know about Exercise in Style, by Raymond Queneau? It is a collection of 99 recounting of the same story, in 99 different styles. It gives a really interesting read, showing how many different ways we can say things...

I was thinking to adapt the idea to writing in literary genres, or at list, in the categories recognized here on Wattpad. It is said that an author will be familiar and comfortable with one or two genres. The fact is, I am not really an author, I am just starting to put words together, trying to make sense and produce some enjoyable reading... SO, I am not set in a genre so far, even if I tried myself more on the Non-Fiction and Science-Fiction so far...

So, this will be a project, recounting the same story/plot in Wattpad categories. Here are those I will try to write in (in no particular order):

- Romance

- Fantasy (including Vampire and Werewolf)

- Science Fiction

- General Fiction

- Mystery/Thriller

- Horror

- Teen Fiction

- Fanfiction

- Adventure

- Humor

- Poetry

- Action

- Paranormal

- Spiritual

- Non-Fiction

- Short Story

- Historical Fiction

What to write about? I was thinking a simple plot, something easy and broad to talk about. I will obviously write short, and perhaps even shorter stories... I was thinking about a "Return to Home" theme like. Then this easy and well known song came up to mind, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home". Anyone knows it or almost. It is simple, a guy is back home from war, and people are welcoming him back, preparing even a party for his return. Here it is, easy, simple, enough to write about and to be covered by any genre... What will come out? I don't know yet. Hopefully it will be readable and enjoyable...

When Johnny comes marching home again

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

We'll give him a hearty welcome then

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

The men will cheer and the boys will shout

The ladies they will all turn out

 And we'll all feel gay

 When Johnny comes marching home.

The old church bell will peal with joy

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

To welcome home our darling boy,

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

The village lads and lassies say

With roses they will strew the way,

 And we'll all feel gay

 When Johnny comes marching home.

 Get ready for the Jubilee,

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

We'll give the hero three times three,

 Hurrah! Hurrah!

The laurel wreath is ready now

To place upon his loyal brow

 And we'll all feel gay

 When Johnny comes marching home.

Let love and friendship on that day,

 Hurrah, hurrah!

 Their choicest pleasures then display,

 Hurrah, hurrah!

And let each one perform some part,

To fill with joy the warrior's heart,

 And we'll all feel gay

 When Johnny comes marching home.
