RICKY gave himself one last check in his bedroom mirror, running his fingers through his hair to make it look somewhat decent, before grabbing his backpack off the chair by his desk and heading for the stairs to go down to the bottom floor of his home. He had heard his dad go downstairs to the kitchen about an hour before he had even considered moving from his bed, but he hadn't left the house to go to work yet, so Ricky wondered whether he was taking another day off.
It had been like that for a while now, but Ricky had grown used to it over time. Everyday was different and some days were good, and some days were terrible - there was never really any in-between. Certain moods reflected how he felt throughout the day, which is why he preferred to be out of the house rather than in it, but he knew that sometimes he needed to be home to look after his dad.
