The military police showed up not long after due to noise complaints, and she was pried from the bodies of the twins.

...

"That night, I killed 42 people aboard a Port Mafia smuggling ship, and 7 men from a minor gang... not including the twins...

That week, a bounty was placed on the head of the coder, who I claimed saved me.  The bounty was placed by an unknown organization. Yuckichi figured out the truth about that night and he eventually convinced me to let him take me in after he visited me for the few weeks I was recovering in the hospital. Then, I was kicked out of the orphanage for involuntarily causing the death of the twins... Every now and then I'll have a nightmare about it... sorry for— sorry for making you worry. I'm over it now, I swear."

Dazai tightened his hold on the woman's waist before bringing a hand up and turning her head towards his while saying, "If you were truly 'over it,' you wouldn't have nightmares."

She was lost in his caramel pools as he held her chin captive in his hand. "I guess you're right... hey... Dazai?"

"Yes, (Y/n)?"

"I told you about my past, I won't beg you to tell me yours— but, what made you leave the Port Mafia?"

He gave her a sad smile before saying, "Similar to you, I lost someone very close to me.  He was an assassin who one day turned into the male version of Mother Teresa.  He— I see a lot of him in you... Someone who was upset at humanity, yet chose to see the good in it one day.

He took in four orphans, and worked his sorry ass off on the worst jobs the mafia offered to take care of those kids—"

She felt him slightly tighten his home in her, and his fist clenched the material of her yukata robe as if he were holding back anger.

"But despite that heart of gold, he was taken advantage of by Mori. Mori lured a ghost of a European organization to the city and they began targeting the Port Mafia, they even tried to ambush me a few times. That organization was called Mimic, and their leader could see in the future 6-seconds when his life was on the line. In a gun or fistfight, he was unbeatable because he could see his life flash before his eyes... no one was a match for him, except Oda. Oda Sakunosuke had the same ability as Mimic's leader, it was called Flawless.

Because of their shared ability, Odasaku was the only one who could rival him... but he didn't want to kill anymore.   All Oda wanted was to leave the Mafia and become an author who lived in a house with a room that had a view of the ocean.

But Mimic's leader believed that Oda was the only one who could save him and his fellow soldiers by killing them all. Despite that, Oda refused to kill.

So, Mori told their leader, Gide, about the orphans Odasaku loved in order to make him fight..."

(Y/n) stilled before whispering out, "He didn't..."

Dazai set his chin on her shoulder before mumbling out, "He did... Mori told Gide about the orphans and Gide had the children killed in front of Odasaku. Oda... he lost his will to live. He went on a rampage and killed every one of Mimic's members before sustaining a fatal wound himself while taking down Gide.

He was my only friend, and he told me that I'd never find the beautiful meaning in life I wished for by killing, I'd find it by helping people. He told me to protect the orphans, so I did when Atsushi showed up..."

She turned around in his grasp to face him before wrapping her arms around him and pulling him into a hug.

"(Y/n)—"

"Shut up for a second..."

She buried her face into his chest whilst embracing him before saying, "Who is this Mori guy..."

His eyes widened a bit before he smiled and brought a hand to her head before saying, "While I respect your sentiments if you ever see him you have to promise me you won't do anything stupid."

She nodded into his chest before he swept her off her feet and into his arms. "I'll tell you more in bed!"

"Let me go! B-Baka! I can walk now!"

"Not a chance! You stumbled all the way to the railing! I was watching!"

"WERE YOU WATCHING ME CHANGE!?"

"That's a secret I'll never tell!"
...

"What are you, Gossip Girl?! Put me down!"

"Not until we're in bed!"

He walked towards the futon lying just inside the balcony door before kicking the covers off from the futon. He sat down on the bed and set her beside him before she shuffled to the farthest reaches of the futon.

She propped herself up on one elbow before turning to the man and asking, "Tell me more about him, the leader of the Port Mafia."

Dazai sighed before saying, "He's a doctor, though he's probably killed as many as he's saved. He has a strange obsession with a young girl named Elise. Though the girl is only an image of his ability, he allows her to act as if she's a real human.  Other than his ability, he's a psychotic, manipulative, monster with a thirst for blood, and he's in control of the most powerful gifted organization in Yokohama. His name is Mori Ougai, and he's a mad man who will kill and use anyone he needs to in order to achieve his plans.   He was willing to lure a bloodthirsty organization all the way here for a gifted business permit that ultimately legalized most of the Mafia's activities... had he'd miscalculated even one detail, that foreign organization could have destroyed the Port Mafia, but he was able to plan it out to such detail that he rivals my skills."

Dazai sighed and laid his head on his pillow before making eye contact with the girl before saying, "(Y/n), promise me something..."

(Y/n) shrunk slightly under his intense gaze before she nodded and mumbled out, "Yeah?"

"If you see him, while I know you have an overwhelming urge to kill him now, you have to promise me you won't. If you do, your identity will be compromised, and I've grown a little attached to you."

She smiled at the man as a soft blush spread across her cheeks before she said, "Okay, but only because I've grown a little attached to you too, you big idiot."
