The Forgotten Child

Chapter 6

Alyson looked around the clearing and there were a few people there. Sofia, Jackson, Justin, and Julia were hanging around. It was just an hour or so before dawn. Alyson had made it just barely.

Julia and Justin came over.

"Alyson I just wanted to thank you for such a nice sleep. Whatever you did make me feel like a new Were," Justin said laughing.

"It's been quite a while since I sleep that good especially since Liza was born," Julia said equally as happy.

"Well glad you two got put to sleep Jackson and I got knocked out!" Sofia barked.

"Hey well, you two were awfully rude so I think you deserved it!" Alyson said shrugging her shoulder.

"Yeah, I'll admit when I get the chance I do go pretty hard, sorry," Jackson admitted his tone as apologetic as his flat voice could be.

"Speaking of which! How dare you make it fight to the death!" Alyson roared at James. Her anger making her skin feel like it was on fire.

"Hey! It was just a test! None of them would've really killed you. I wouldn't have let them," James said.

"So all that was an act?" Alyson said.

"Yep, if I were that crude of an Alpha the elders wouldn't let me be an Alpha in the first place."

"Well, that's not reassuring Jackson almost ripped out my throat!" Alyson yelled back.

"But he didn't, did he?" James says stretching lazily.

"But if I hadn't stopped him he would've!"

"But you did manage to stop him right?" James says laying down now.

"Honestly!" Alyson says throwing her hands up in the air and plopping down. Kit and Kota come from behind her and instantly Kai is all over them.

"Kai, be good. Kit and Kota helped me a lot today," Alyson said though her mind was on the pinking tissue on her hands. It scared the crap outta her to think that she was almost a Skinwalker.

Is that what that humming means that she's turning into one of those beasts? Is that where that power comes from? Fear wrapped around her like a blanket. She pulled her legs closer and put her head on top of her knees.

Was this going to happen again? Could she control it if it did? Would she actually die if she doesn't see Iina? Will she become a Skinwalker? How did that even happen? She wasn't even scratched by a Skinwalker or had any really close moments with one except the first night she saw one. How did this happen?

"Alyson?" She heard Hayden's voice echo through her mind.

"Yeah?"

"Are you okay?" He asked panic clear in his voice.

"I think so, I'm in the clearing that we started in. I won, but something really scary happened. I don't want to talk about it just yet. But we can't talk about it around everyone, okay?" Alyson said to him.

"Okay, I'll be in a few. The others are with me. I woke them up," He said softly. His voice alone helped Alyson relax slightly.

"I noticed you build a much stronger bridge," He said in a tone that made Alyson smile.

"Yeah, that mean'ol Alpha won't be able to break that one without a bunch of force! He made me do all this and made you try to kill for a stupid test!" Alyson grumbled.

"Oh, just you wait Dad is going to give him such an earful when we get there. Then Sarah will probably give him another earful," He said in a calming tone that made her relax further. She watched as Kota, Kit, and Kai all played together. It was an odd scene two wolves one an Alpha one more of a dog than a wolf, and a fox who seemed like it wanted a pack instead of being alone.
