The President set his cup down on the desk in front of him before he said, "(Y/n), I know you want to help the boy, and it makes me happy to see such effort on your part.  You are a very bright and smart girl, it is one of your most valuable assets, but when you get emotionally involved you have lapses in judgment.  Think thoroughly on this before you decide to house the boy for the night."

...

(Y/n) unlocked the door to her apartment and watched as Atsushi's eyes widened in awe.  She had a feeling he had never seen luxury housing in his entire life.

She slipped her shoes off and set her bag on a small wooden coat rack beside the door, and Atsushi followed suit.

"Alright Atsushi, here's the gamplan for the night since I sprung this on you last minute.  We're going to shower and then I'll make us some dinner.  You can watch TV or use my computer while I cook if you'd like, but unfortunately I'm not a great hostess."

Atsushi shook his head profusely at her apologies before he said, "No, no, no.  I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity.  Thank you for having me, (Y/n)-san."

The (hair color) haired woman couldn'y help the laugh that broke from her mouth before she said, "You sound like you just got hired or something?  This isn't an opportunity, its a normal act of kindness."

(Y/n) showed Atsushi how to use the shower and bathtub before she left the room to shower herself in the master bathroom.  She redressed her bandages and slipped on a pair of her favorite pajamas before she began cooking for Atsushi: Tea on Rice.

As she was making dinner for themselves, Atsushi used the time to ask her as many questions as possible.

"So, you're pretty strong... right?"

(Y/n) walked past Atushi before heading to the kitchen where Mochi was eagerly waiting next to her food bowl for her next serving of food.

"I guess you could say that I'm pretty strong, but I think most of my strength comes from my ability.  I'm better at hand-to-hand combat that most people thanks to Yukichi, but I'm still not the best and I'm still pretty weak as far as actual muscle-strength goes."

Atsushi nodded and said, "And, the President adopted you?  Right? That's what Dazai-san said when we were leaving the investigation today."

"Yes."

"Were you happy... you know... when it was official and you were adopted?"

She smiled as she stirred the vegetables she was frying before saying, "Of course I was, my hero had suddenly legally become my Dad.  I was ecstatic, and it may be hard to imagine but so was he."

A few seconds of silence passed and Atsushi hadn't asked another question.  She turned her head slightly to see if he was okay before she saw him smiling softly at her.

"Are you okay?"

Atsushi nodded in contentment before he said, "Why was the President your hero?"

She blushed slightly in embarrassment at the information she'd revealed before she said, "W-well... at the time I--I'd-- some people very close to me had been... they were murdered.  Then I lost a little control of my ability and more died.  I had ended up believing that my ability was a curse and needed to be disposed of.  The only way to do that is--"

"To die..."

She smiled a somber smile before nodding at the boy's words and saying, "So you can only imagine how relieved I'd been when I found out I could control the uncontrollable parts of my ability.  He was like a beacon of hope for me, I thought If I can control this, I can use it to save people, not hurt them.  It's that fear of hurting others again that kept me from joining as a field agent and staying an informant."
