cheekbiters

I don't see it,
but mom can't unsee it.
'Stop biting your gums,' she'd say right about now.
It's weird, food doesn't taste like it used to.
Mom says it's all in my head.
That I'm just ill, unwell.
But the metallic taste that lingers on my tongue,
after coaxing my sores like a dog licking its' wounds,
That hasn't changed.
It still tastes like batteries.
Sure, it hurts when they get in the way of my teeth,
But I can't help it ...

Is it in my head? Or could it be some messed-up superpower?
To taste only pain?

Most Sincerely,
The Cheekbiters

PS. Ma, I think I'll pass on the spaghetti tonight.

A/N: It has been a long while since I've posted anything, but today I was reading some of my old works and kind comments and got inspired.

At this point, this may seem random, but I want to thank @xXZOMBIELOVEXx for the suggestion to do a cheekbiter edition back in 2016!!! *facepalm* So sorry, it took so long. I did take a creative liberty and went into a different direction with it, so I hope you still enjoy it and find it worth the wait.

This actually ended up being really personal and close to my heart, but I like leaving my works to the reader's interpretation; so please feel free to share your interpretation, comments, and suggestions for new -biters! Thanks!
