The Immortals: Chapter Two

Violet's point of view

I lay on my bed, staring out my window, across the yard, and into the forest that surrounded my house. My dark brown hair pooled over my shoulders and draped onto the bed. When I stood up it went halfway down my back in an unnatural-looking straightness. I was lucky; my hair was thick, shiny, and straight as a board. The girls at my high school hated me for it. My extremely pale skin made my hair seem darker, and my sapphire blue eyes were deep and striking. My body was slender, with slight curves, and I stood 5'4. In usual standards, I was attractive. But for some unknown reason, I was off limits to everyone, I didn't know if it was because I was so far away looking, or if it was because I didn't look like any of the other girls, with mousy brown or blonde hair and not nearly as light skin. I sighed inwardly, leaning my chin on my hand and depending on my elbow to keep me up.

Suddenly, there was a movement in the forest and I walked over to the bench-window pane, sitting on it and pressing my face nearer to the glass. It seemed like, a person? Yes, definitely, with black hair and pale skin, almost as white as mine. He seemed to be hurried, walking through the woods in a pace so brisk he seemed seconds from flat out sprinting. What the heck was he doing in my forest? I slipped on my tennis shoes, going out through the back sliding door onto my deck. I could see the man's figure shrinking as he walked deeper into the forest.

"Hey!" I called out, stumbling out onto the yard. "Why the heck are you out here?"

I ran after him, into the forest. "HEY!" I screamed. The man paused and turned, his green eyes striking, even from far away.

"Yes?" He asked nonchalantly, as if trespassing  was perfectly normal, and I was the one intruding.

"Don't 'yes?' me! This is private property, why the heck are you in here!?!?" I snapped, stomping towards him. As I got nearer, I realized he was not a man, but a teenager, 17 or 18. He had long black hair that almost reached his shoulders, and he wore a simple jacket of black cloth. I put my hands on my hips. He smiled.

"Sorry my lady, I was just passing through. I'll be gone in a moments notice, if you would just let me pass." I stared at him, confused at the way he spoke. What century did he think it was.

"Okay, who ARE you? You're definitely not from around here." I asked.

"My name is Ascensio, is you must know. And you're right, I'm from another place very far away." Ascensio's smile grew into a smirk as he explained. "I was just exploring, I didn't realize this was private property. Forgive me?"

I sighed, nodding. "Just hurry up, my father won't be happy seeing some stranger on our property. Move along." And with that, I turned my heel, heading back home. As I looked up, I saw a tawny brown bird high above me. I could barely make out its figure as it soared higher into the air. I sighed longingly, what a joy it must be to fly.

I slid through the back door, removing my shoes and heading back to my room. I had a lot of homework to do, and finals were soon. I needed to study if I wanted to get a good grade. I grabbed my binder and plopped onto my window bench, unzipping my binder. May as well start early.
