Virgil had been in the same school district his entire life. And annoyingly, it was not a choice district so you had to go to whichever school was closest to where you lived. The older he got, the more he hated school. He was currently in his junior year of high school.
Roman moved to the neighborhood in the summer before 7th grade. Virgil loathed Roman with a burning passion. Well, loathe is a strong word but he sure wasn't fond of him. Roman was extremely loud and overconfident. He seemed to think very highly of himself and Virgil just didn't get it. Roman would interrupt class with witty remarks that left everyone snickering, even the teacher. What bothered Virgil the most, was when Roman would sneek quick little glances towards him. Roman would look away very quickly, but it made Virgil's blood boil. It felt like he was being cruelly judged. What was so wrong with him that always caught Roman's attention?!
The bell rang, snapping Virgil from his thoughts. He picked up his stuff (he already had it gathered up so he could leave quickly) and power walked out of the room, trying to ignore the stare Roman was giving him.
Once Virgil arrived to his next class, he plopped down in the seat next to his one and only friend, Logan. Virgil and Logan weren't the best of friends but they hung out. Logan was analytical and observant. He worked hard in his classes and extracurriculars.
"What is the matter, Virgil?"
Logan said without looking up from his book.
Virgil replied, "It's stupid, Roman! He won't stop looking at me! Every. Single. Day. What's wrong with me, huh?!"
"If you want to know you should ask him. You can't tell unless you do."
This was the stupidest thing Virgil had ever heard come out of Logan's mouth. "Of course I'm not going to ask him about it! He'd judge me even more!"
"Suit yourself then."
Logan said before returning to his book.
Virgil gave out a huff and laid his head on his desk.
