Farce

I clung for so long to my faith
In doomed and star-crossed love
Now there's nothing but a wraith
Of what my hope once was

Our covenant once sacred
Wavelength once the same
The very thing you once deplored
So quickly you became

The very thing that I once loved
So quickly turned to hate
You betrayed us and yourself
A wicked trick of fate

In a golden, olden time
We used to osculate
The moon hath abandoned the tide
Oh how you oscillate

You used to wave your beacon torch
Oh how the tables turned
Now it's nothing but a scorch
The trail you blazed a bridge you burned

It was your fear to fall from grace
You spoke of wanting to be pure
You spoke of wanting love and peace
Your domineering once demure

You were a hero, gold and bold
Then a villain, no disguise
So far removed it makes me wonder
If the past was all just lies

You woke up on the wrong side
The bed of the underworld
Your vehement rallying cries
Replaced by floundering hurls

I was smitten till you smote me
After everything you wrote me
I anointed your head
And you cut it off dead
