Without saying anything else, Anderson throws himself up from his chair and stomps out, doing his best to make a statement by slamming the glass door shut behind him, to which I flinch slightly before daring to look up at a disappointed captain with his head resting in his hands, and his hands propped up on elbows resting on his desk.

Just as I open my mouth to speak, he slowly raises his head gazes at me with tired eyes. "I'm sorry you had to listen to all of that, (L/N). As you heard, however, you will need to work with him. You and I have already talked about androids and I understand how you feel, so with that in mind I'm giving you these cases."

"Thank you very much, sir. I'll do my best."

"Good. Continue with your work; the files will be at your disposal shortly." With that, he turns to his computer. I stand up and push both Anderson's chair and mine back where they belong before heading out to my desk again, making sure I don't bump into Reed along the way.

—four weeks later—

I had just finished reading some files regarding the second android case when the captain calls me over to his office. Taking a quick glance at Hank's chair across from my desk, which has now been empty for around a week, I gulp and leave my work to speak with the captain.

"(L/N), glad to see you. Go ahead and sit down." I do as he says and make myself comfortable in the same seat I was in when Anderson and Fowler had another one of many disagreements.

Clasping my hands together on my lap and offering a small grin, I inquire, "What do you need, sir?"

"As you are aware, Anderson has been absent for some time now. I understand you're doing your best with these cases, but your progress is faltering since you've been taking most of the weight. As a result, you will be assigned a new partner." I watch as he looks over to my left and waves his hand in a beckoning manner.

The sound of the glass door being swung open and shut catches my attention, and I turn to the left to see who came in. There, by the door, stands a tall man with short brown hair and brown eyes; one little lock of hair falls to the side, just barely resting on his forehead. The most striking thing about this man overall isn't the nice, formal attire or the almost abnormally neutral look on his face (the fact he manages to still look nice and rather attractive without even attempting to smile baffles me), but the little ring on his right temple and what is on his suit—the label RK800 printed on the right side of his chest, as well as a large android symbol on the left side.

"Hello, Mr. Fowler; miss (L/N)," the man—android, rather, starts. "My name is Connor. I was sent here by CyberLife to solve the investigations regarding the deviant androids."

Without responding to Connor, the captain turns to me and explains, "This is your new partner. He'll be by your side helping you to solve those cases and find the deviant androids. Before you get back to work, however, I need you both to find Hank and bring him back so I can let him know that the three of you will be working together." He then mutters something else while he reaches a hand up to rub at his left temple.

"I'm sorry, sir, what was that last thing you said?" I ask softly.

"Knowing him, he's probably at some bar getting drunk off his ass. Get going," Fowler answers, sounding more tired than anything.

I nod my head and quickly rise from my seat. "Alright. Have a good day, sir." The android, Connor, holds the door open for me, and I whisper a small "thank you" on the way out. Quickly, I head over to my desk and collect whatever information on those cases I may need. Once I've finished, I look up at Connor and say, "I'm afraid I never properly introduced myself, although it seems you already know who I am. The name's (Y/N) (L/N); I'm a detective here and it seems now we're working together." My hand shoots forward and hangs in the air between us; he responds with a slight smile and shakes my hand.

"Pleasure to meet you, detective (L/N). Shall we go and find lieutenant Anderson?"

"Oh, you're right! We can't waste too much time here." In an instant I move past Connor, making sure to not bump into him while doing so. Once I reach the end of the office with my new partner on my heels and lead the way toward the exit, Reed appears yet again with another cup of coffee. "Mr. Reed, hello." I force a smile on my face and he offers a sly grin.

"Hey (Y/N). How...what the fuck is that?" Reed glares directly behind me, and I already know just who he's looking at.

"Mr. Reed, this is Connor. He's an android, and was sent here from CyberLife to solve some cases about the deviants."

"Well I can clearly fucking see that it's an android. What're you doing working on those damned investigations anyway, (Y/N)? It's a waste of your time."

Before I could retort, Connor cuts in and says, "Mr. Reed, I'm afraid we must be going." And, just like that, Connor's already halfway across the corridor with me in tow. I look over my shoulder and see Reed with a very pissed off look etched on his face before he heads to his desk; I try to stifle a giggle, but fail.

"Detective (L/N), what's so funny?" Connor's voice interrupts my little fit of giggles. I spin my head in his direction and see him gazing back at me curiously. We've come to a brief halt; just a few feet ahead of us stands the exit.

"Well, Reed is a guy who doesn't exactly like androids, so you retorting like that and leaving him speechless was funny to see!"

"Oh. I think I understand." Offering a smile, to which I smile back and blush ever so slightly (perhaps from all the laughing), we exit the building and start our search for Anderson.

Hey everyone! This is officially the first chapter for my fanfic series Deviancy! I admittedly don't know what to add, except that I've had a little bit of trouble keeping Connor in character, but I think I did alright. Please let me know what you think of the story so far! <3
