"That's... not that long from now." Colby replies.
"I know."
"What do you usually do on your vampire birthday?"
"It's different every year, but in the past, I've run around LA with Salina, jumping off buildings, seeing how far we can run across the country in one night, scaring humans. It's fun."
"Sounds like it."
"But what I wanna do this year is go to a fairground. As a human. I wanna be scared."
"I know of one. It's not in LA, though."
"Where?"
"It's west of Anaheim, south of LA. Place called Buena Park."
"I know the place."
"Yeah, Knott's Scary Farm." Colby says. "So you'd be turning four hundred and thirty seven."
I close my eyes, dropping my head forward until I hit his chest. "Don't remind me."
"What's wrong with that?"
"Oh, you just wait until yours." I say, not moving my head. "Not only will you be turning twenty four, but Salina will throw a huge party for your first vampire birthday."
"Again, what's wrong with that?"
I lift my head. "Salina's what's wrong with it."
"Don't continue unless you want your four hundred thirty eight birthday to be a nightmare." I hear Salina say from downstairs. Colby laughs.
"Why don't you come us here and tell us what you're planning for Colby's first one?"
I hear her laugh and the next second, she's perched on the edge of the bed. "I'd love to. I already have so many ideas."
I roll my eyes, but lead Colby to the bed, where we sit, letting Salina go over her plans. Apparently, she was planning on a big party, with alcohol and humans. I let her continue, while Colby listens and I try to imagine what the party would look like.
The talk was cut short however, when I heard a yell downstairs. All three of our heads whip towards the door and a second later, one of the newborns, Maddey, burst in. She was holding a piece of rolled up paper.
"Maddey." I breathe, and I get up and rush over. She holds the paper out and I take it, reading it. My eyes zip from one side to the other in a blur as I take the words in. Then I look up at her. "Tommo?"
She nods. "I was going around the border of our territory and I saw him. Said he was waiting for someone to pass to report back to you. Said it was urgent." She tells me.
"Thank you." I turn and set the scroll on my desk.
"What is it?" Salina asks, getting up and taking the note as Maddey leaves the room. She reads it, then looks up at me, her eyes wide. "Why would they go after them?"
I shake my head. "I don't know."
"What's going on?" Colby asks. "Who's going after who?"
"When Micheal left this clan, he went to our rival clan. We know he told them about us, but we don't know how much he told them. So I sent in Tommo. He's disguised as a banished vampire from this clan to find out what our rival clan wants. From the report he just sent in, he reckons they want to destroy us." I say, sitting down.
"So they're going after us?"
"No." I answer. "Not directly."
"What do you mean?"
"Tommo thinks they're going after the Trap House."
