"No." Eijirou frowned. "I was not."

Katsuki froze, gaze deadpanned to Eijirou's face. "You are a flirt and you were flirting."

Eyes rolled, "Whatever, Kat. Your mask isn't right though. Lemme just-" After a moment, and a little wobbling on Katsuki's part, the mask was adjusted. "Perfect. It suits you."

"Eh?" Lip curled.

"What about me?" Eijirou turned to the masks. "Hm. Hm."

"What's this matsuri for anyway?" Katsuki followed Eijirou further into the stall, picking up a Tanuki mask, trading it for a tengu. "Oh." Fingers snapped. "Found it."

"Aww, Kat-" Eijirou trailed him to stop before the oni masks. "Kat, no. C'mon. Something more flattering?"

"Neh." Katsuki snickered, standing on tiptoe to reach to reddest, brightest one. "This-" he breathed, ignoring shop girl telling him to stop a few feet away. "This one, for your shitty hair."

Proudly he held the bright red oni mask up. "It's even got little gold details so we mat...ch..."

Eijirou was almost crying, his face pale beneath the fierce blush. "You aren't funny, Kat."

"I-I don't understand." Katsuki lowered the mask. "I thought it was-"

"Yeah, cuz you're half drunk and you forget everything." Eijirou snatched the mask, focusing on it. "God, it's well made though." He turned to the awkwardly fretting girl. "Beautiful craftsmanship."

"Uh-" she burnt up again. "Th-thanks, but we don't make them here."

"Why don't you like it?" Katsuki yanked the mask away, absently poking at a fang, glaring at Eijirou.

With a heavy groan the idiot leaned back, covering his face with his hands, "How do you not know? How can any one man be this oblivious and forgetful and awful to anyone?"

Katsuki chuckled awkwardly. "Dude. Just," he fiddled with a ceramic wrinkle. "Just tell me-"

"The oni and kitsune youkai?" Eijirou's voice came out in a growl, his teeth grit and eyes closed as the stall keep fiddled quietly, blushing.

"I didn't realize!" A hand covered her mouth as the blush stole back up her face. "I'm sorry for being untoward-"

"Oh." Katsuki looked down at the mask in his hands, trying to remember. "I kinda remember Hanta saying somethi-"

The big shrines are to a Kitsune and Oni duo that were said to have brought a century of peace and prosperity to the mountain folk.

A hand moved to the mask strapped to the side of his head, distantly he registered Eijirou speaking with the girl, hands waving, smiling, trying to be disarming.

"He doesn't know." Katsuki heard him say, "He's new to the area and isn't even aware what we're celebrating-"

The Oni and Kitsune were a couple. Like, lovers.

"Oh..." Katsuki looked back at the mask. "Oh!" Gaze meeting an exasperated Eijirou, "Oh shit!"

"Yeah."

"Don't give me that fucking tone, you shithead." Katsuki snapped. "I'm not the one who came in here all 'Oh, pick what the fuck ever'. Like I'd know. Jesus fucking Christ you moron." Fingers tightened, "But... I mean what does it matter?"

Electricity zapped through Katsuki at the sentence, stomach clenching tight. God can he feel it too?

"W-what does it...?" Eijirou grasped the mask, standing before Katsuki, smiling gently as he pulled it from Katsuki's limp fingers. "You fucking ask me to second guess my relationship with Pony every day-"
