"Kain! Kain, it's time to get up!" Brady yells, as he starts up the flight of stairs, "Honestly son, it's your first day of grade eleven, and you're going to end up being late." Walking down the dimly lit hallway, he turns his head to the right, briefly looking at a picture of a gorgeous, bronze skinned, smiling woman. He stops at the third door on the right of the hallway. Standing in front of his son's door, he stares at the panel of buttons on the right side of the door frame. "Seriously? How many times have I told you not to lock your door?" As Brady reaches for the bottom right button, light seeps through the cracks of the door.
Movement is heard on the other side of the door. Yawning, Kain says, "I'm getting up dad, don't worry. No need to blow a fuse." As Kain lifts himself up on his bed, the door opens. Grinning, his father walks in. In the light, Kain sees that his father is wearing a charcoal coloured suit, the sleeves struggling to breathe against the bulkiness of Brady's arms.
"Glad to see you haven't figured out the automatic shutters for your window," Brady with his arms folded across his chest walks over to the window. "Don't forget to wear your uniform today. Last year was annoying with the amount of calls I got about you not wearing it." The sunlight bounces off Brady's lightly tanned skin, highlighting the features of his face, his strong jaw, light pink lips, and short light brown hair, standing up at attention.
Kain reaches and rubs his right eye, turns so his feet touch the ground. With his head in his hands, "Oh that was just one day. Plus, I hate H.N.C.A.'s uniforms. They're so plain, so boring. They're especially not flattering at all by the way." Letting out a choking noise, he clears his throat of all grogginess.
Turning to his son, he laughs, "Hey I had to wear the uniform when I went there. I didn't like it either, but it's the rules. Whether it be at home or at school, you'll follow the rules. Now hurry up, your sister is all ready to go."
Kain slowly stands up and turns his head to his father. Sarcastically, Kain says, "Well, Elaine has always been a suck up. Bit of a weird morning person too." His voice soothing, deep and calm, despite his throat feeling scratchy, and lips like sand paper.
"Shut up Kain!" Yells Elaine from downstairs.
Shaking his head, Brady turns to leave his sons room. "Honestly, for once, try getting along with your sister? It wouldn't kill you."
"It could. You never know dad." Kain says laughing.
Leaving Kain's room, Brady taps a button on the small panel, turning the lights on. Annoyed, Brady says, "You really need to clean up your room. It's a mess. While you're at it, you should reorganize too."
"I'll get right on that dad. Hey, maybe I could do that instead of going to school today?" Kain asks with a chuckle, hope in his voice.
"Hurry up and get ready!" Brady shouts from the hallway.
With a yawn, Kain turns left from his bed and walks straight towards the wall. Lifting his right hand, he gently presses against it, and a bright blue outline of his hand appears. A line cracks the wall, and opens with a light coming on. Sighing, "I really need more clothes to fit this closet." Walking into the closet, an automated voice welcomes him.
"Good morning Kain Young, are you in need of your uniform?" the voice asks him.
Kain turns to his left and reaches out to a shelf and takes a pair of jeans, "Morning Rose. I told you before, just call me Kain," Walking around his closet, he raises a hand to his head and rustles his thick, short chocolate brown hair, "Yes, I guess I am. Where did I put them again?" A floorboard at the back of the closet opens, answering his question.
"They are still in the same place you put them on June 25th, 2032, at 2:33:54 P.M." Rose says.
Walking to the back of the closet, he gets on his right knee and reaches down to the open compartment. Gripping the clothes in his hand, with a tone of disappointment, he says, "Oh yeah, I forgot. You're the memory woman, machine, computer, whatever, who can't forget a single damn thing." Kain stands up, inspects the navy two buttoned, collared shirt. "Can't believe I have to endure two more years of this uniform." Shaking his head, Kain turns and walks out of his closet.
