Life isn't easy, and I know that. I also understand that people don't get along even when they're supposed to, but damn, You'd think they'd want a brake.

The Hayes are my next-door neighbors, and they're continually fighting just like my own house. Every morning when Mr. Hayes gets up for work at 6:am, he fights with his son, Parker, while the mother sits back and does nothing until parker tries to leave. And every night, around 11, the mother fights with Parker until he leaves the house and stumbles back in around one.

They've become my alarm clock. Not that I need it, though, because soon after, my parents awake to start their daily dose of fighting.

But, hey, at least they aren't screaming at me.

"You're such a disappointment." Mr. Hayes loud voice echoed through my room.

"Thanks, Dad," I could practically see Parker rolling his eyes at this moment. " and as always, great job, mom."

I kind of laughed at that. She is a sorry excuse for a mother.

" Honey, he didn't mean it." His mom and I spoke at the same time.

I wasn't proud of it, but I could almost tell you what's about to come out of their mouths since it's nearly the same argument all the time.

" screw the both of you." I winced at how loudly he slammed the door.

I must've been lost in the argument because the next thing I know, Parker Hayes is looking right at me with an expression I couldn't quite read.

I wanted to say something, but what do you say to someone who's repeatedly being told he's the reason their life is hell. I finally made up my mind but was cut off by the loud voices of my parents.

" you're a piece of shit, mason." My mother screamed at my father, following a sound that seemed like glass breaking.

A huge sigh escaped my lips, knowing he just heard what happened, so I did the only thing that came to my mind.

I smiled while pretending to blow my brains out. I silently cursed at myself when he looked back at me, confused, but then he did something I least expected. He laughed.

Parker's Hayes laughed with me. His laugh was a beautiful sound that you didn't often hear from his house.

"Jordyn, your ride his here." My mother, Alice, screamed from downstairs.

Could she possibly be any louder?

I didn't say goodbye to my parents like most kids. Heck, I didn't even really talk to them unless it was necessary.

" fighting again?" Valerie asked, with the slightest frown on her face.

" of course." We kind of laughed.

It didn't bother that they fought so much; it bothers me that both of them are too stubborn to admit they need a divorce. But when I tell them that they both insist that they love each other and if that's why love is, then count me out.
