On the other side...

"what the heck is going on?! What are those things?!" I yelled at my dad, running from almost 50 of whatever was chasing us. I used to think I could outrun anything but heck, those things were going fast. No matter how broken and dead they looked, they were in good shape!

I was just finishing football practice when the moon turned almost like a purple and red. It was freaky. At the time, I was in the concession getting some Gatorade with my dad. I looked out the window and saw the moon in the state it was in. We walked out of the little hut and saw no one was really around anymore.

We saw someone in the distance, under a tree. The moonlight barely went through it. They were definitely struggling. Sploches of skin started to open up, he started to stand funny and he screamed in pain. His skin started turning a pale color, and his eyes seemed to be dislocated, if that's even possible. I was terrified. My dad seemed to be at a loss of words as well. He was still able to talk, and I'll never forget what he said. "RUN!!". Okay maybe it wasn't that hard to remember.

We were still in the doorway of the concession stand, struck by what we just saw, when a group of those beaten, broken, dead things came towards us. My dad grabbed my shoulder and we went inside the building. I hate to admit this, but I was scared. I wasn't sure what on Earth was going on and honestly I was scared for my life. I mean, who wouldn't? Even the best get scared sometimes...right?

My dad opened a trap door thing in the ground. Almost like a vent that went downwards and told me to go in. Still processing everything that was going on, I jumped down the tunnel and landed on a pile of dirt. At least I hope it was dirt. I realized my dad would jump next and moved just in time to not get hit by his fall. He quickly stood up and told me to follow him.

We started walking down this narrow, dark and empty tunnel. I had so many questions! "Hey Dad?" I said, still paranoidingly looking behind me. "What is it?". How is he so calm about this, I thought. "What about Lexi, Mike, Ellie, and mom..?" I said, hoping I didn't sound as worried as I was. He dropped. "What?!, What is it?" He didn't show it, but I could hear in his voice that he was heartbroken. "Lexi and Mike... They were in the car...". I stopped, I could feel my heart drop. Even if me, Lexi, or any of my siblings got along. I still cared about them. Suddenly I remembered something.

"The group of zombie-like things," I said, hopefully" before they started chasing us, I noticed that they seemed to be chasing something else until they saw us. Almost like whatever they were chasing outran them or something. What If it was Lexi and Mike?!". My dad sighed, "Lexi can't drive and she doesn't even-" he stopped. "Oh my Gosh she has he keys.". I couldn't help but laugh, they were okay! But that means we don't have a car.

"So where are we going to go?" I asked, hoping it was somewhere to eat. "I don't think we have many options at the moment." He sighed. "We should start walking to the store so that we get there in the morning to get food, weapons and maybe even a car." Thinking over all of this, I couldn't agree more with my dad's idea.

The tunnel like pipe we were walking in was dark and echoey. I had no idea how my dad new which way to go but I followed anyway. My dad seemed to be super calm. Maybe it was just me, but he wasn't even panting. It was difficult for us to get through the mud-slime stuff because of how thick i was.

I kept thinking about Lexi.. she could drive?! At least, I hope she could. She probably went to see if mom and Ellie was okay. I hope they are. Knowing her, she's already there and locking the car up so Mike could sleep. She always acted like our mom when mom wasn't around. It gets real annoying sometimes though.... I didn't have time to think about that now.
