Moving Day

"Come on Layla! You have to get the rest of your things packed." Mum lectured, with her brows raise at me expectantly whilst holding a china plate mid-air, she only had a couple of plates left to pack before the kitchen was finished. She gave me one last look and continued to place it into the cardboard box in front of her.

Moving houses was something i was used to doing, so ive never really had time for friends or maintaining relationships. It's only ever really been me and mum.

Sometimes i wonder what it would be like having a dad. Obviously i have a father but I've never met him; through his own choices that is.

I've brought it up to mum a couple times,  just curious to know what he was like when she knew him, but i have learnt after the few times not to ask because it just makes her burst out in angry tears.

I do wonder sometimes what it would be like to have a dad around but i never think about it for too long. I have my mum and shes more than enough. And I have Milo, my beautiful grey Siberian Husky. He's such a teddy bear.

Mum packs up the last plate and hastly turns around to face me, "Why don't you go get the few things you have left packed and I'll order us some Chinese food?" she offers with a light smile on her face, creating a small dimple in her cheek, "and in the morning we can move the last few boxes into the car." She looks at me waiting for an answer. I agree swiftly with a nod, smiling from ear to ear.

Who doesn't love Chinese food?

She shooed me away, insisting that i hurry up before the food gets here.

We moved around often so we don't have much, just the basics, making packing a whole lot easier, which i was extremely grateful for.

I walk out of the kitchen and make the short journey to my bedroom. I open the door revealing my nearly bare room. The new place has furniture that we already had delivered there so all that's left in my room is my bed, wardrobe and bed side table.

I walk in, leaving the door slightly ajar behind me. I don't have much left to pack, mainly just a few more clothes and a few photo frames which have pictures of me, mum and baby Milo.

It didn't take me long before i was finished.

I make my way down the stairs and walk the few short steps to the kitchen.

"I've finished packing now." i say in a sing-song voice, catching mums attention. She turns around from piling a box ontop of another besides the front door.

"Perfect timing, dinners going to be here in five." she beams.

~~Small Time Skip~~

I look up from my food and notice mum staring at me. I can't decid eif she's upset or disappointed, either way they're both negative. I furrow my brows at her, what have i done now?

"Layla, I know that I've said it a few times to you now, but this is going to be the last time we move. I'ts a nice place, not too many people. A small town...In all honesty I didn't even know it existed until work offered me great work there. I'll still be going on many business trips, but its a permanent home for us this time." she says firmly, nodding to her own words, agreeing with herself. She looks at me, inspecting my face for any indication of an emotion.

"I believe you mum." I smile at her, slightly faking it.

I know she's always tried to do what's best for us but I've heard it a few times before that we won't be moving again, and then six month's down the line we end up packing up and leaving.

"So what is this place actually called?" I ask, glancing back up at her.

" West Waterspring." she replies.

"hm." i hum back in response.

I finish my food, exchange a few more words with mum before we both say goodnight.

Starting a new school in West Waterspring is bound to be great fun...note the sarcasm.

In all honesty I've gotten used to starting new schools so the thought of starting a new one doesn't phase me too much.

I make my way to my bathroom and look at myself in the mirror and just stare back at myself. Wow my hair is a mess. I grab my hairbrush and brush my charcoal coloured hair. I brush my teeth and make my way back to bed, grabbing my phone off my bed side table on the way.

The last thing I remember before falling asleep was the sound of the rain from outside hitting the window.
