Ivy was in gardening pulling weeds out of her flower bed. She pushed aside some roses and saw a human being. This girl was a little smaller than her hand, she was unconscious just lying there in the dirt. Ivy bent down to get a closer look, the tiny girl's arm had a gash and was bleeding. She knew she had to help this human. She gently cupped her hand around the girl, picked her up to her chest, and brought her inside her house.
Ivy set the girl down on her kitchen table and went to her medicine cabinet. In the medicine there were bandages. Ivy cut the bandages into tiny strips so it would fit the tiny girl's arm. She grabbed a washcloth and put water on it. She dabbed at the wound and cleaned around it with some soap. She then put the cut bandages around the girl's arm.
The girl stirred and her eyes fluttered open. She looked up and saw a giant girl. She panicked and moved back onto a wall and pressed herself against it.
"Please... who... where..." The tiny girl stuttered
"Hey... Hey, it's okay... I don't want to hurt you. I promise." Ivy said gently
"Please don't eat me." The tiny girl was shaking.
"No, It's okay I'm not at all interested in eating you. If I were to eat you I wouldn't have bandaged your arm up."
The tiny girl looked at her arm and saw the bandages that were wrapped around her arm so neatly and gently. She looked back at Ivy still scared.
"I'm Ivy." Ivy held out her index finger for the tiny girl to shake."
"I... I'm Edith." Edith cautiously shook this giant girl's index finger. "What are you?"
Ivy smiled softly "I'm part of a race called Vira but you humans tend to call us giants. Now it's my turn for a question. What were you doing in my garden?"
"I... was running away and I got lost"
"Most humans are deterred by the barrier we Vira have set up... Why were you running away?" Ivy questioned the girl.
"My parents died in a car crash and the court was going to send me to live with my Aunt and Uncle. They hurt their kids. I've seen the bruises on my cousins. They also would hurt me whenever I went to stay at their house. I couldn't stay with them. I really miss my mom and dad." Tears started running down Edith's face.
"Oh honey, It's going to be okay." Ivy smiled gently at Edith. "Can I pick you up?"
Edith nodded. Ivy held her cupped palms out for her to step into. Edith climbed into the center of Ivy's cupped hands. Ivy brought the tiny girl to her chest and rubbed Edith's back gently with her finger. Edith was crying profusely clinging onto Ivy's shirt. She needed this, she hadn't felt any form of caring since her parents had died.
"Hey, Hey I'm not going to send you back to them. I promise. It's all going to be all right. You can even stay here if you need."
"Thank you," Edith said softly.
Just a while ago Edith had been terrified of this giant girl. Now her presence felt comforting. She knew that Ivy meant no harm to her and she was safe.
"Is it really okay for me to stay here?" Edith asked.
"Of course! For as long as you need."
