5 years prior

"Come on! Pose for the photo, Robbie!" The girl laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. The boy chuckled along, plucking a flower from his garden.

"Alright, fine! Make sure to get my good side." He joked, sitting on the soft grass. The scent of freshly cut grass wafted through the air, as the some shone bright. It was a lovely day, it was a shame it would rain soon.

She snapped the photo happily. Soon she plopped down onto the ground next to her friend. She exhaled deeply, running a hand through her hair.

"Shame summer is going to end soon. The flowers are going to die..." The young girl piped up. The boy next to her nodded his head. A comfortable silence filled the air. That's how their friendship was, they were comfortable with each other.

"Y/n, can I ask you something?"

"Shoot."

"What's your favorite flower?"

"Zinnias."

"Well, I'm back." A familiar voice chimed. When was the last time I'd heard that voice? Putting my phone down, I studied the scene infront of me. Margo was talking to another girl, smiling widely.

"It's been too long, Y/n!" Margo said loudly, alerting most of the people in the shop. Margo was always loud. She was never afraid to voice her opinions, that's why I respected her. The girl next to her was oddly familiar, but I couldn't place how I knew her.

Before I could react, Margo ran up to me, dragging the girl with her. With a grin, Margo proceeded to explain who the girl infront of me was.

"August, do you remember Y/n? She moved like 4 years ago." My eyes widened. That's how I knew the h/c haired girl. She hadn't changed one bit. Maybe she got taller, but her face was the same.

"That's where I remember her from! Miss l/n it's been too long. It's a pleasure to see you again."

"That's where I remember you from! Miss l/n It's been too long. It's a pleasure to see you again." The blonde said, standing up and taking my hand. We used to be so close, then things changed.  He brought my hand up to his lips, kissing my hand.

"August, I'm glad to see you again. We should catch up sometime." I said, with no real intention to talk. He smiled politely, looking me over once more. Soon, he reached into his bag and pulled out something.

"I was saving these for someone else, but seeing the occasion, they're for you, Miss l/n. Please accept these flowers." He handed me an extravagant bouquet of flowers. I could only imagine who he was going to give these.

"Thank you! Do you happen to know where Robin is?" I asked, dying to see him again. We were the closest out of everyone. He was a shy boy, his only hobbies were his garden and drawing. He liked to listen, and at the time I loved to talk. In all the time I was in other states, I never formed a bond with anyone else.

I never knew much about to August. He's a sweet boy, his family has an overwhelming amount of money. He always acted so proper, and now I see he still is. He's a charmer, but a lot of girls only want his money.

"Oh, I do. I should alert him of your presence. He hasn't been the same since you left."

"Thank you again! I should get going, though. My mother is expecting me home soon." He nodded his head lightly, turning back to his phone. Hopefully, to tell Robbie I'm back.

"Well, Margo, it was amazing to see you again! And thanks for the free coffee!" I said, grabbing the door knob. She waved happily, smiling brightly.

"No problem! Come back soon!" She said, her smile never failing to brighten up my mood. She was somehow always smiling, even through the worst parts of her life, there she was, smiling like nothing was wrong.

The streets that once felt familiar, now felt alien and strange. The memories of playing with my friends seemed so distant now. I grew up here, yet it seemed so new to me. As I turned the corner, the street lights flicked on, giving me an eerie vibe.

Memories flashed through my mind like a violent slideshow. Some good, most bad. I walked past his old house, wondering if he still lived there. A single light was on, showing a single wilted rose in the window.
........................................................................

I set my pencil down as I heard my phone go off. Doesn't he have his won homework to do? I thought as I read the contact name. It was August. He texted the group chat, which was weird, it's only for important things.

August: do you remember Y/n?

My blood ran cold at her name. She'd left before I got to tell her how I feel. I kept the flower she gave me. It's dead now.

Me: yeah??

August: She's back in town. She wanted me to let you know.

I grinned, hugging my phone to my chest. She thought of me first! I jumped up out of my chair, running down stairs, running to my garden.

I quickly plucked a flower from the bed, smiling widely.
