Inside the Poet's Mind

Don't you see meaning and magic
In the world around us?

Like how no one will ever hear or see
The exact same things as us

Or the way the night sky is filled with
Pinpricks of light?
Have you ever wondered
If space is as beautiful
Out there as it looks
From down here?

And surely the way
We squint our eyes when the sun
Is too bright
Is a metaphor for happiness
And how we can only handle so much?

And isn't the way our dreams
Are manifestations
Of our past present and future selves
So beautiful?
There are thousands of poems
To write about dreams.

And have you ever seen
The world from above?
How everything looks
Like toys, and the people like ants?
Have you seen Shibuya crossing from above,
The way everyone moves in unison?
How incredible is that?
So many individuals moving at the exact same time
All independent of each other
Yet seemingly a pack, performing a prearranged
Choreography?

And dew on grass
Have you ever seen a more beautiful thing?
And when it glistens off spiderwebs
Doesn't it look like a fairy has been there?

And what about the way
Birds are the first thing
To take to the skies
As the sun starts to set?
Have you ever just sat and watched as the sun goes down?

And have you ever dreamed of bioluminescent creatures in the water
After dark, lighting your path
Reminding you youre not alone?

And what about jellyfish, how they move
So easily through the water?
Why are we scared of them?
Is it a metaphor for how we can't see true beauty
Because we are scared of it?

And what about the way
A pencil in your hand
Feels so right,
Like it belongs there,
Like it's a part of you?

And have you ever thought about
How owners look like their pets
And the sheer amount of leaves a tree has
And the way they change colour and fall off
And how the sea sparkles like it's made of glass
And a haircut is technically the most drastic and least permanent thing you can do to your appearance
And how sand feels between your toes
And the coolness of waves washing over you
And how shadows seem so magical
And how everything magical can be explained through science?

One day
I'll write about all of this,
Fill up thousands of notebooks
With these musings.
One day
You'll read all of this
And remember what I told you.
But for now
I'm going to work
On myself.
