Clary's POV
There you go! I finally finished unpacking the last box. We have officially moved into our old house again. I am so excited! My mom and I left Brooklyn and moved to California when I was ten. That was when my father died in a car accident. It felt so good to be back in Brooklyn. From tomorrow I will be going to school with Simon.Simon and I have been best friends since kindergarten and for the rest of my friends-well, I didn't have any other friends.Somehow I couldn't find anyone who understands me like Simon.Just when I was drowning into my own thoughts...
"Clary! Dinners ready!" Jocelyn shouted from downstairs.
"Coming right up mom!" I said as I raced down the stairs hoping not to trip onto any of the empty boxes. I was starving so badly, unpacking all my stuff just gets so exhausting.
When I reached downstairs I heard Luke's voice and some other strange voice, sitting right opposite to Luke. I couldn't see the face cause his back was facing me.When he turned around, a wave of shock hit me hard.
"Hey Clary! Just in case you forgot I'm Simon Lewis. It's still strange...."
"That you got two first names?" I said completing his sentence.
At that Luke and Jocelyn broke out laughing. Simon walked over to me and gave me a tight hug.
"SIMON!"
"Oh sorry almost forgot that your claustrophobic." he said chuckling and loosening his arms around me so I could breathe.
"You've changed alot I didn't recognize you there for a second!"I said excited.
"You can't blame me! Puberty hit me hard Fairchild." He said jokingly.
Luke and Jocelyn were at the kitchen counter having their own time. After my dad died and we moved to California ,my mom met Luke. They started dating after a while. That was the first time I ever saw her so happy and comfortable being around somebody other than me. And I was happy for them.
"Your mom's new boyfriend is pretty fun to be around!" Simon said.
"She ain't my girlfriend kiddo. I put a ring on her so legally she is my fiance." Luke shouted from the counter.
"Wow! Enough heart attacks for a day guys!" Simon said.
"So how is school? Got any new friends? Any girlfriend?" I asked.
"Well as of friends,no one could replace my Fairchild!"he said.
"As of girlfriend, still working on Izzy..." He whispered into my ear.
At that my eyes for sure widened.Simon has been crushing on Izzy for so long I couldn't even remember how long! We talked more about school in the dinner table. But Simon was more into my mom's pancakes than he was talking about school. It was weird getting back to this place thinking nothing would have changed when everything has changed.
Simon and I decided to go up to the roof and learn constellations together just like the old times. And Jocelyn and Luke as usual loved doing dishes and having fun with it. Trust me I really don't understand how they have fun with doing dishes. But it makes me happy to see them happy.
It was cold outside on the roof. Simon had to lend me his jacket to keep me warm.
"So how was California? Did you make any new friends?" He asked.
"No one could replace Simon Lewis could they?" I replied imitating him.
"I suppose they can't. Did you date anyone in California?"
"Well one thing I figured I was in love with while I was in California is art. But I can bet you that you haven't gotten over your boy band yet."
"On that note, the boy band is called Rock Solid Panda!" He said excited.
I couldn't help but laugh. Every time he gets excited he reminds me of a kid who got what he wants. We talked about his boy band,my paintings and other school stuffs.I couldn't help but think of those times when we were innocent little kids talking about homework and now here we are talking about dating and love.It seems like just yesterday we were kids running around the house. You never really realize you have grown. And all of it just faded into darkness a little by little...
