I decided to post another chapter after not updating this for ages. Go me!

HOGWARTS: A NEW BEGINNING.

Chapter two:

The station was, for lack of better description, magical.  My mouth dropped open and I couldn’t help but stare as I took in the grandeur surrounding me: the magnificent, sparkling scarlet train was the first thing that my eyes found and I watched in fascination as steam spiralled out from its numerous funnels and evaporated as it hit the roof of the station. The platform itself was a flurry of excitement, with the students of all sizes and ages who were running around happily as they greeted their friends after the holidays and said goodbye to the rest of their families for another term. Older students were strolling leisurely along, occasionally helping the younger students to shove trunks into carriages or even scolding them.

I saw a group of people who’d already changed into their full wizard’s robes and suddenly felt very self conscious in the skin tight jeans and baggy cardigan I had thrown on quickly that morning. The feeling of self consciousness didn’t last long, however, as I saw a flock of students all in jeans and trainers wondering towards the carriages.

My mother came up behind us and for the first time in year she was speechless. “Wow,” she managed to breathe out as she turned her head rapidly, taking in every small detail that she could. “I didn’t expect it to be this... amazing.”

I nodded slightly to show that I agreed, too caught up in the atmosphere to form a proper sentence. Inside I was squealing with happiness that it was real, I couldn’t stop thinking about how this was how my life was going to be like from then on – full of magic and wonder. After only spending a minute on the platform I was fascinated with it all and desperately wanted to know more. Instead of being nervous I was eager to get to Hogwarts.

Looking around I saw that people’s gazes were directed surreptitiously in one direction, I followed the curious looks and turned in the direction in which they were staring.  At the end of the gazes a large family was clustered together and talking animatedly. There was a man with messy black hair and glasses whose arm was casually slung around a red haired lady who you could just tell was his wife. I guessed that the three children who were jumping up and down excitedly next to them were theirs. There was one worried looking boy who bore a close resemblance to his father, an older boy with dark black hair and a daring smile, and a small red headed girl who looked more like her mother and was far too young to be starting Hogwarts that year.

The family turned to their left as they were joined by a read headed man and a bushy haired woman, the new couple’s children immediately sprinted towards the others and launched into ecstatic conversation, bouncing up and down with barely contained energy. The new additions to the group were a boy and a girl, the girl looked so small that it seemed impossible that she attended Hogwarts - but there she was, fully attired in her brand new school robes with a determined look on her face. I looked down at my normal clothes again and the feeling of self consciousness flooded back.

After watching the two families laugh and joke around with each other for a few seconds I was bemused as to why everyone on the platforms gazes kept on flicking back to them interestedly. They were just as normal as any other family to me.

I glanced up at the brick walls, having lost interest in the families, and the giant, old fashioned clock on the platform declared that it was five minutes till the train departed. A shrill whistle sounded, confirming that I didn’t have that much time left. I looked surprised, not having known that I was going to leave in so short a time.

“Come on, Amber!” Let’s go and find a compartment to put your things in,” my father said kindly while my mother gave me a rare sympathetic glance, the paleness of my face must’ve expressed the feeling of nervousness that was growing inside me.
