Chapter 4

I burst into the cafeteria like a madwoman, Klaus close behind begging me to think about what I was doing. When I zeroed in on my target, his tan face visibly paled. I stalked over to our usual table and came to stand over him.

"Get up," I said lowly and Zane gulped.

"Now Mizu," he started with a nervous laugh, "let's stay calm about this."

"I'm going to be calm after I kick your a-"

"Language."

"-behind into the next century," I finished.

"Fiesty," he said under his breath, repeating Klaus's word from earlier.

I opened my mouth to tell him once again to get up so I could at least kick him in the marbles when another voice beat me to it.

"I bought cupcakes to calm the beast."

I gave a whoop of excitement and saw the desert bearer sitting down at the table. I gave Zane a fierce glare and whispered "This isn't over" before sitting down next to my friend. She set two cupcakes in front of my face, both of them with lots of icing.

"Thanks Satella!" I threw my arms around her neck then eagerly picked up the first one.

"You're welcome," she smiled.

Everyone began to converse about their first four classes and teachers they had as I quietly but happily ate my favorite food. By everyone I mean my small group of friends who had banded together our freshman year and been insaparable ever since, with a few exceptions of course. There was me, Zane, Sam, Seth, Satella, and Klaus. We all knew each other so well; it would be horrible when we split up to go to college. I glanced at my supposed best friend and I had to grudgingly admit that no matter how angry I was at him now, I would miss Zane when he was gone.

Finally the conversation turned to me. I told them impassively what my classes were and how cool my first two teachers were. When I got to Mr. Sammael , however, I grimaced.

"He's a know-it-all jerkwad," I told them. "Just talking about him makes me want to hurt somebody. Speaking of which-"

My foot shot out and hit it's target: Zane's shin. I smiled smugly as he winced and clamped his hand around his bruised leg.

"That bad?" Satella asked curiously.

"Yea," Zane and I said at the same time. Actually, I said, Zane groaned.

"I thought he was a pretty cool guy," Klaus admitted, giving his blonde hair a flip to clear his vision.

"Me too," Sam said.

"Are you serious?" I demanded. "That guy is a vicious beast."

Seth rolled his eyes.

"You're just being over dramatic. But then again, what else is new?"

Everyone else chuckled and I just glared half halfheartedly. It was true, I could be over dramatic sometimes.

"So," I took a bite of my second cupcake, "what do you guys have for the rest of the day?"

"We've got Latin," Sam gestured to herself and Satella.

"I'm headed over to the community college," Zane said. "You?"
