The Stage

As a weighted curtain bids farewell from a play

Signaling the onlookers of their cue

To applaud the performance

And pay such dues

The same may be said of my very own heart

When the curtain drapes over my display

Of outwardly joy and appearing okay

Time to walk away from all the lights

And carefully crafted stage

Reluctantly I part ways from a character

Resuming myself

Along with the grief and misery I once felt

As faithfully an audience praises an act

Providing them with a fantastical retreat

Too soon my depression is willing to rise upon its feet

Greeting me at the very edge of my stage

Where my imaginary world temporarily keeps it at bay
