The silence that greets this proposition
is filled with the creaking of anchored ships.
Penelope frowns with concentration,
tightening her hands and chewing her lips.

Reaching a decision, she arrays face,
in clear voice announces to misogynist:
'My crew is impossible to replace
but this worthless youngster we will not miss.'

A cry there is now from fair rescuer,
the mermaid whom impaling nobly braved,
with distressed movements she seeks to obscure
the injured young boy she has lately saved.

Penelope coldly cautions the maid,
'Be silent! Learn to restrain your dismay.'
