Whilst in a relationship, the two women decided that a way to secure their relationship is to murder people, this will prevent the other from leaving due to the horrific secret which they kept.

Their first unfortunate victim was an elderly woman of which suffered with Alzheimer's Disease. Graham supposedly smothered the woman in a way to "relieve tension" whilst Wood watched over. The death of the unfortunate woman did not seem suspicious in the eyes of others, so an autopsy did not take place and it was treated as a natural death.

At the beginning of the couple's killing spree, they decided that they would kill people who have an initial which would lead to spell the word "Murder". However, this "game" began to become difficult, therefore they decided to stop.

After this first murder, the two women went on to murder four other elderly patients. These murders were between January and February of 1987. However, Wood claims that it was Graham who smothered all of the Alpine Manor's patients and that she did not take part apart from being "look out".

After the deaths of five elderly people, it was found that Graham was in a relationship with another woman, therefore Graham and Wood's relationship ended abruptly. Graham then moved away to Texas with the woman who she had an affair on Wood with.

Wood after this got in a relationship with another man of which did not last very long. Although within the short length of their relationship, Wood had admitted to him about the five murders which she was involved in.

This man then understandably went to the police to inform them of the information which he heard from Wood, so police began to look into the victims. However, three out of the five victims had been cremated and with no autopsy, information about what happened to them could not take place. Therefore, police asked for a exhumation (digging up) of the two other victims. After analisation, no sign of a homicide was revealed which was expected due to the time after the deaths of the victims. They also interviewed Wood to find out what went on.

Although no sign of homicide was found, police arrested Wood and Graham due to the amount of evidence of which Wood gave to the police. Throughout interviews, Wood made it clear that Graham did the murders and was the "mastermind" behind them all.

During the trial, Wood plea-bargained her way to a reduced sentence by portraying that Graham committed all of the murders. Graham stated her innocence, however one of Graham's ex-girlfriends reported to police that Graham admitted to all five killings, and the police believed her.

Graham was found guilty of five counts of murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. She was given a life sentence in prison.

Wood on the other hand was only found guilty with one count of second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 20-40 years in prison and has been eligible for parole since 2005.
