Chapter 1: First Impressions Are Dangerous

Hi, I'm Tina, and I just moved to Japan a week ago.

Today is my first day as an intern at Ōkami Corporation—and I am not ready.

"Hey! Hold the elevator!" I yelled, running in heels I immediately regretted buying.

The doors opened just in time. I stepped in, out of breath.
"I think I just lost five pounds," I muttered.

A tall man in a suit glanced at me, unimpressed.

Great. First judgment of the day.

When I reached the top floor, I walked into the office and smiled nervously.
"Hi, excuse me, I'm the new intern—"

"Ah," a woman interrupted, looking me up and down. "New meat."

Excuse me?

"I'm just an intern," I corrected.

"They all say that," she replied, grabbing her bag. "Good luck. You'll need it."

Wow. Friendly place.

Under my breath, I whispered, "Somebody didn't get attention last night."

"Excuse me?" she snapped.

"Nothing!" I smiled sweetly.

I knocked on the office door and walked in.

"Hello, I'm—"

"You're five minutes late, Miss Tina."

And there he was.

Kazuko.

Cold eyes. Sharp suit. Zero patience.

"Sorry," I said quickly, "but your girlfriend just stormed out because you fired her."

Silence.

His expression darkened.
"First of all, you don't talk back to me."

"How can I talk back if you didn't let me finish?" I muttered.

He leaned back, studying me.

"From today, you're not just an intern. You're my secretary."

"...Excuse me?"

"You'll be assisting me directly."

Wait.

Wait.

"Do I get paid?"

A slow smirk spread across his face.

"You're bold."

"I'm broke," I corrected.

He actually laughed.

And just like that, I realized something dangerous—

My boss was a problem.

And somehow...

I was already part of it.
