Do you ever look back on your past and think 'that was a giant red flag, how did I miss that?' well, I have. All of our lives we lived in a small town, if you could even call it that. Our house was on the very top of a steep hill, there was a farmer's market at the end of a long winding ramp/road. My sisters and I were known as 'the insure ones' or 'the shy ones' because we lived far away but we were very polite, or at least I was. There's three of us now, our mum died when we were young so we never really met her, and ever since dad left on our 8th birthday, we haven't been the same. We all felt abandoned. Dad leaving hit Ruby the hardest since she was the closest to him, he was an engineer; he even had a workshop out the back but only Ruby was allowed in it, one day we confronted dad about it, his response was 'she's the smartest out of the 3 of you'. None of us have a job, we never really needed one, we got money from dad's grand invention: the "Picto box" which allowed a new form of media to exist. it was a large box that allowed people to make short story's for everyone to enjoy, it would later be developed into the "phone" and it made him a billion air. Strangely when he left his money stayed which surprised all of us. I think it's because Ruby is an inventor and he wanted to leave some money in case she needs anything expansive, but we'll never know. Ruby is an introvert, shutting herself away for days on end trying to invent something to 'out-live' our dad, she tends to avoid social interaction because of this reason, so she hasn't got much experience but I Imation she's good. I, on the other hand, get way to nerves to talk to anyone unless their close family or friends, but never the less if someone is in trouble, I rush to their side without a second thought for my own safety. Meanwhile my other sister Scarlet is an extrovert so she talks to everyone in any ears reach dad would always jokingly say 'just like your mother' and playfully ruffle her heir, other than that we never really got any background information on mum, and we shouldn't have tried to find out more, but we did. That was mistake number one, we all wanted to know more about her so I guess you could say that it was a grope effort, in which everyone had red-tinted glasses on so they couldn't see the obvious red flag. despite the fact that Scarlet made friends easy she always made us go to the farmers market at the base of the hill, that is until I made a set time for everyone to go there was a LOT of complaining but I didn't see why, Ruby would go on: Monday and Wednesday, Scarlet would go on: Friday and Saturday, then I would go on: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, + it's not like we have to go down every day, only when we run out of food or are almost out, everyone wins. That was my second mistake, a red flag so tiny that no one could see, at the time I thought I was doing the right thing in hindsight I should have left things the way they were, but I didn't. One day the food ran out so we sent Scarlet down to get some since it was her turn but when she came back there was a young girl who looked to be our age standing behind Scarlet looking in awe at us and the interior of the house, she had: rabbit ears, ice blue hair, a yellow and purple sweater, brown pants and red boots, all in all pretty standard attire. Ruby hid slightly behind me narrowing her eyes as she approached "name's Bonnie" she chirped with a goofy grin "S-Stacy" I replied as I hesitantly held her hand. She latched her hand onto mine with both hands as she jerked it up and down reputedly while going off on a rampage about how no other girls wanted to talk to her because of reasons she couldn't explain, although I had a sneaking suspicion that it was because she was way to hyper and energetic, soon after we were all friends. That was my third mistake I shouldn't have gotten her involved I should have pushed her out the door and told her to go home and to never come back even if it would be heartbreaking. Then there was HIM. The jerk that set this entire thing in motion, I blame this one on teen love, no, STUPID teen love AND my inability to say no. All of these red flags, so hard to notice at the time, now hang over me and say "but what if you did this instead of this?, that would fix everything but nooooo, you had to be a dummy and screw up everything" these thoughts keep me awake at night, gnawing at the back of my mind, taunting me. There are a lot of things and a lot of people to blame, including me but as any story goes there are multiple perspectives, so ill let you judge as you read.
