Berthen's P.O.V

I'm Berthen Samantha Lawris. Some manners I've got, I didn't introduce myself but I just kept blabbering about my chaotic family and myself.
So I hope you don't mind if I start all over and properly introduce myself on my way to my classroom?

As I was saying I'm Berthen, I'm fifteen years old and in my final year of junior high school. I have two older siblings and I'm sure you have met them already- my brother Peter Lebron Lawris, who's eighteen years old is in his final year of senior high school high school and my sister Peandre Sallie Lawris who's seventeen is in her second year of senior high.

Our school is about 2.25 km, which consist of a senior high school about 1.8 km that is governmental and it's private preparatory school about 0.4 km.

We live with our parents in Tema-Accra. Your jaw dropped on the floor right? Did you also think we live somewhere in Europe? Well quickly gather your jaw from the floor so I can finish with my introduction. It came as a shocker during my naming ceremony too because I don't understand why our parents have local names but we don't.

We trace our ancestral root to the Western region of Ghana. So in summary we are Nzemas. Our grandparents still live there in Takoradi. We don't often visit them but our last visit was quite an awesome expedition because it was during the Kundum festival.

Since it's a festival of harvest, there were lots of foods. There were lots of eye-catching display of mouthwatering dishes who's sight did not only capture the attention of the eyes but also pleased the nose forcing it to take in deep breaths of it's pleasant aroma.

Even better wait till you have a feel of it heavenly taste on the tip of your tongue. My favourite food was Ats3k3(pronounced as achecke, the two e's sounding like the e in check).

I don't know how it's prepared but I know it's made with our local gari and best served with grounded pepper and smoked or fried fish. Take it from me you will love it on a first try!

The four months long celebrated occasion which commences in August and ends November  does not only take place in one town. Though I don't have much knowledge about the festival because I had only witnessed the festival once.

I was fully aware of the fact that Nzema is the the epicenter of the festival, where the preparation of food is done and sent to other parts to continue with the celebration alongside drumming and dancing.

Back to my family, my mother Teresa Abenlema Lawris is a florist who owned a flower shop in Tema about an eight minutes drive from our house. Her shop, De-Lawris Pink Petals, (pretty cool name for a flower shop name I guess), sells flowers for all time-sensitive events including Valentine's day, wedding ceremony, birthday, funerals etc.

And my father Chris Armah Lawris owns a floristry also named after our family name,De-FLawristry, I must admit that my father nailed it in naming his floristry after the family name more than my mother did.

FLawristry basically sounded as floristry. De-FLawristry supplies flowers to my mother's shop and other flower shops out of town. He's always busy and hardly at home just like now. I really admire my parents for how hardworking they are.
